College Specific Information
Choosing A College
If you are thinking of going to college, making a decision of where to attend can be overwhelming to say the least. College Board has a search tool that helps you find which colleges offer your program of study. You can also do general searches by location, type of school, sports and activities available on campus, etc.
Click here for another resource that lists things to consider when choosing a college, as well as a college application timeline.
Parchment
All colleges will want a copy of your high school transcripts, and you can send these by utilizing Parchment. Parchment is a website that houses your grades, and you should have registered for the site as a junior.
Current students for this year will receive unlimited electronic transcript requests at no charge until August 1.
After Aug. 1, you will be charged $3.25 per transcript.
Email Mrs. Walther if you have questions or need further assistance in registering with Parchment.
Please note- if you order transcripts through Parchment, you should save the PDF file that they send to you immediately, because the link will expire after 3 days.
College Applications
Did you know that in 2020, 75% of GHS grads went to college immediately after high school? Applying to college early is the first step in your post-secondary endeavors. You can find applications on the college's websites, or click here to see a list of all Michigan colleges and links to their applications!
Free Tuition!
There are quite a few colleges and universities in Michigan offering free tuition to students based on various criteria points such as: what county students reside in, family income, GPA, etc. NOTE free tuition does not mean free college. Students will still have to pay for living expenses and books. Click here to see a comprehensive list of schools with free tuition.
Free College Applications
Students who are eligible for free and reduced lunch are eligible for college application fee waivers. Email your counselor to get one.
Many colleges never have an application fee, but some do. October in Michigan is College Application Month. Click here to see a list of colleges that are always free, and a second list that includes waiver codes for the month of October.

What Colleges Expect
Colleges see your entire high school transcript, including senior year 1st & 2nd semester grades. They expect you to maintain previous levels of success and complete the courses you are enrolled in. In other words, dropping a challenging course is a “red flag” for a college admissions representative.
