When you are planning for your future, it is helpful to take advantage of job shadowing opportunities as well as college visits. We recommend that you visit the campus of any college or university you are interested in attending. Be sure to schedule a tour by reaching out to the school's Admissions Office. If you have a job shadowing opportunity in mind or if you need help finding opportunities, talk to your counselor. Students are allowed 2 visits a year. In order to get an excused school-related absence, print and fill out the form (to the right of this text) or stop by the main office and ask for a hard copy. Turn signed copies in to the main office.

Many scholarships, some college applications, and even certain jobs will require letters of recommendation. If you would like to request a letter of recommendation from your counselor, please fill out this form.
How to get a great letter of recommendation:
Ask someone who knows you well, such as a favorite teacher, coach, or employer. Do NOT ask a relative or family friend, that is not professional.
Ask early- summer break is a good time for people to work on letters of rec. Ask teachers at the end of the school year to write one for you so that they can be as detailed as possible. Be sure you ask at least two weeks prior to the deadline, the more time the letter-writer has, the better.
Be polite- even though we live in a digital age, if you are able to it is a good idea to ask for a letter in person. After you receive your letter, be sure to give your recommender a thank you letter...a hand written thank you card is a wonderful gesture.

Each branch of the military has different ASVAB score requirements for each different job a recruit might choose. Click here for ASVAB study resources.
