“Nature is the Art of God.”
-Dante Algheiri
In the month of September, the students of IBDP 1 planned to host a workshop for our juniors regarding the process of making an eco-friendly Ganesha idol (Ganesha is a worshipped God in the Hindu religion) as Ganesh Chaturthi (festival devoted to worshipping Ganesha) was coming soon. The traditional idol damages the ecosystem, kills fishes and water plants. In many areas, the same polluted water gets pumped into homes as Ganesh Chaturthi festival ends with the Visarjan or immersion of the idols in water which makes the rivers highly polluted. Thus, we researched upon the topic and found out that we could use terracotta clay for the same.
Moving on to the preparation stage: we researched about the process, discussed the same amongst each other and carried out an idol making session. With the guidance of our CAS Coordinator and our will to learn something new and then teach the same to our juniors, we finally perfected the form of art and were ready to demonstrate the same.
During the workshop, we displayed the steps of making the idol and our juniors seemed exceedingly curious and interested. It turned out that they were exceptionally innovative and considered unique ideas about various features of the idol. The workshop was really effective as we, ourselves could learn.
Overall, the workshop was successful as both, us and our juniors learnt something valuable i.e how to care for our nature while worshipping our God.
