Transitioning into the IB Career-related Programme (CP) is an exciting opportunity to blend your professional passions with academic excellence. At the heart of this journey is the CP Core, designed to develop the real-world skills and ethical mindset you’ll need in any future career. The summer tasks for these four components - Community Engagement, Personal and Professional Skills (PPS), the Reflective Project, and Language & Cultural Studies - are your first steps in shifting from a student to a professional. These activities will help you begin identifying community needs, exploring ethical dilemmas in your career field, and building the metacognitive habits that define a successful CP candidate. By engaging with these core elements now, you ensure a confident and purposeful start to your Grade 11 year.
Summer Task/Project
Community Engagement in the CP is about understanding the needs of others, developing empathy, and taking meaningful action within your community. Over the summer, your challenge is to explore how small actions can create positive impact.
Your challenge
Choose ONE issue, challenge, or community need that matters to you. This could be connected to:
Mental health and wellbeing
Environmental sustainability
Education and literacy
Animal welfare
Inclusion and accessibility
Poverty or food insecurity
Cultural awareness
Youth issues or online safety
Take meaningful action
Complete at least ONE action connected to your chosen issue. Examples might include:
Volunteering with an organization or community initiative
Organizing a small awareness campaign
Creating social media content to educate others
Supporting a local cause or fundraiser
Helping younger students, neighbors, or family members
Participating in a clean-up, donation drive, or community event
Interviewing people about an issue and sharing their perspectives
The focus should be on engagement, empathy, initiative, and reflection — not on creating a large-scale project.
Final reflection
Document your experience in ONE of the following formats:
A photo journal or scrapbook
A short video reflection (2–3 minutes)
A slideshow or infographic
A written reflection (400–600 words)
Your reflection should include:
What issue you explored and why
What action you took
What you learned about the community or issue
Challenges you faced
How the experience changed or developed your perspective
The goal of this task is to begin developing the mindset of active citizenship, collaboration, and reflection that is central to the CP Community Engagement component.
