There are many ways for parents to be involved in their children’s education. Research shows that the more involved you are, the more successful your child will be. Here are some ideas to help your child succeed in school.
Be positive and encouraging about school in front of your children. Avoid negative comments about curriculum (“I was bad at Math”) or staff members (“Mr. Doe is mean” or “Mrs. Smith is hard”).
*Be sure that your child arrives prepared for school (rested, healthy, fed and with assignments and resources - library books, etc.).
*Read to your child daily, even when they are able to read on their own.
*Listen to your child read (when they are able) or have them tell the story from the pictures and ask them questions about stories read.
*Let your child see you reading and writing for authentic purposes and for pleasure (magazine, newspaper, book, recipe, list, etc.).
*Help your child post “labels” in their bedroom (i.e. bed, door, etc.).
*Encourage them to try new things, including reading, writing, tying shoes, riding a two-wheeler, etc.
*Help them be responsible for their own work, keeping assignments, library books, etc. in bookbags. We focus on trying their best and building independence!
*Support them with projects without doing the project for them - the goal is for them to learn and build confidence in themselves.
*Attend Kindergarten Expert’s Night (January 21st).
*Attend Parent’s Nights - (September 16th and March 4th.) . The March event will include dinner.
*Lend expertise on class topics (community, careers, etc.) by being a guest speaker-let me know if you are interested in doing this.
* Volunteer in or for the class as able.
We love to have volunteers!!! You can come as often or as little as you like. All volunteers, including field trip chaperones, must have a background check. It's free! It must be completed every five years.
Click here to start your background check (required before participating).
Complete gray form included in 'Welcome to Kindergarten' packet if you haven't done so.
Our bussed field trip will be on October 16th. More details to come as it approaches. Anyone interested in chaperoning can indicate that on the permission slip. All chaperones must complete the district background check. Click here to start your background check now. Field trips are an extremely valuable way for young children to learn.
