Daniel Wright Elementary was named after Dublin’s first postmaster. Wright was born in New York in 1790. He and his brother Charles traveled all around the country entertaining people with pets and wild animals they had trained. Eventually they both settled in Dublin. In 1819 Daniel Wright married Margaret Christie. They lived in Dublin and ran a successful farm.
As one of the early settlers in Dublin, Wright was always willing to step in to help make Dublin better. When he saw a need, Wright was always there to help. The townspeople wanted to be connected to the postal service so Wright became the first postmaster. He was postmaster for five years, beginning in 1820. When he saw the community needed a bigger, better school, he donated land and helped John Sells build it. As time went on and Dublin grew Wright saw a need for law and order so he became a Justice of the Peace.
Many people see the needs of others or the community, but don’t always do what they should. Daniel Wright helped his community in any way he could, even when times were hard and he didn’t always have a lot. Wright died in 1864. He is buried in the Dublin Cemetery.
