Scottish Corners Elementary is named after a gas station, called Scotty’s Corners, formally located on Post Road. The gas station also was a carryout and lunch counter. Scottish Corners opened in the fall of 1987 and introduced a new architectural style to Dublin that would be used for several other buildings.
There are many stories surrounding Scotty’s Corners, some of which may be true, but some may be urban legends. One story is that Scotty had two small dogs that would do tricks for customers. Scotty claimed at least one of the dogs performed for the Queen of England. Another story claims there was a large painting of a man wearing a Scottish kilt on the side of the corner store.
