Olde Sawmill Elementary’s name can be traced to Sawmill Road. The name Sawmill Road comes from the fact that there was a sawmill located at the intersection of Sawmill Road and Dublin-Granville Road. Olde Sawmill Elementary opened in the fall of 1981.
The sawmill was a very important part of the community. Before the sawmill, settlers had to cut all their logs for their homes by hand. This was very difficult and caused cabins to have very different shapes and sizes. The sawmill produced lumber cut to specific sizes, in order to make construction of cabins easier and faster. This lumber was used to construct homes, businesses, bridges, and barns.
