Intervention Supports/Processes
The Dallas School District provides a full continuum of services to students in Grades K-12. Teachers and/or parents may refer students who are experiencing difficulty learning. If you feel your child is in need of more supports, each school building has an intervention process in place.
In the event you feel you need more supports for your child, below is the sequential points of contact to seek assistance.
Classroom Teacher
School Counselor
Building Principal
Director of Special Education
Elementary Level: At this level, the building utilizes a child study team process. Through this process, parents become aware of the interventions that would be available prior to qualifying for services.
Child Study Team Members could include:
A Building Principal
Classroom Teachers
School Counselor
Social Worker
School Nurse
Title 1 Teacher
School Psychologist
Secondary Level: At this level, they utilize a SAP program. (Student Assistance Program) SAP is an early intervention program for student who are experiencing difficulty being successful in school. SAP involves a team approach of professionals as well as parent involvement to determine the nature of the problem and provide assistance in the educational setting.
SAP Members could include:
A Building Principal
Classroom Teachers
School Counselor
Social Worker
School Nurse
School Psychology
Wyoming Valley Alcohol and Drug Service
Children Service Center of Wyoming Valley (Crisis Support)
Additional Options to Consider:
If the team or parent feels more supports and services are warranted two options may want to be considered:
1. 504 Service Plans
2. Referral for a Special Education Evaluation
