Technician Support

Collaboration

A Behavioral Health Technician (BHT)  provides individualized services for adults and children in a variety of home, school, and community settings. BHTs implement treatment plans for individuals with mental health disorders, traumatic brain injuries, developmental disorders, and other disabilities.

BHT services may include crisis intervention techniques, immediate behavioral reinforcements, emotional support, time-structuring activities, time out strategies, passive physical management when necessary, and additional psychosocial rehabilitation activities. Personnel providing BHT services are not employees of the school entity and have the specific tasks as prescribed in the child’s treatment plan. These one-to-one support services are parent driven and funded through insurance/medical assistance programs.

The Dallas School District collaboratively works with multiple agencies. The agency you choose is a family decision; we simply ask families to provide communication to the school district so we can obtain clearances and releases of information from the agency prior to them entering our school buildings. Please contact the Director of Special Education so we can collaboratively work together to support your child.

A list of BHT agencies in the county are provided for reference. Please note this list is not an exhaustive list and there may be additional agencies that could provide BHT support for your child. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.

Please understand the agency you partner with is required to provide clearances to the Director of Operations prior to working with your child within the school district.

Documents can be mailed to the district.
