Germany’s higher education institutions have an excellent reputation. Teaching and research provide key impulses for innovation and progress. German universities combine research and studies and have been involved in ground-breaking discoveries such as the printing press, computer and mp3 that have become an inseparable part of our modern lives.
Germany provides tuition-free education in most universities (and very low fees in others). You will find world-class education by highly qualified staff and hundreds of academic courses to choose from. Most courses are taught in German but there is an increasing number of English-taught courses both Bachelor's and Master's. It’s an interesting country to explore with a profound history, cultural diversity and students from all over the world. After graduation, you can continue to stay in Germany and search for a job. The cost of living in Germany is affordable, averaging around €720-850 including rent, food, transport, health insurance, telephone/internet, study materials and leisure activities.
In Germany, every university is autonomous. This means that every university/study programme has its own set of criteria for admitting students. So please check the university website, and specifically the programme you are interested in to find out the exact admission requirements. You may need to submit preliminary review documentation (VPD) with your application. The university website will give more information about this and how to apply for it. Please get in touch with the counsellor as soon as you know that you would like to apply in Germany.
The International Baccalaureate Diploma is recognized in Germany provided you study an approved subject combination. Students must choose subjects that appear on the list of recognized DP subjects and must study them over the course of two DP years as part of their 12-year full-time continuous in-person education. In addition, DP subject names must be written in their full format on school report cards and transcripts, avoiding any abbreviations.

You need to have either Mathematics, one natural science (Biology, Chemistry or Physics) or a language as a HL subject and pass the IB Diploma to get admission in Germany.
Finalise the application plan to understand your deadlines. If a program has more applications than places, it falls in the Numerus Clausus category (e.g. Medicine, Biology, Business Administration) and places depend on your rank number.
Some universities accept applications directly but most of the universities require you to apply for a preliminary review documentation (VPD) mostly through uni-assist.de. If you are a German national, then you must check if you need to apply for the VPD through the regional council of the state where the university is located.
Since the time is very short between the IB results and the final application deadline, all documents including the resume should reach Germany latest in May. The application usually requires you to get your transcript copied and certified before you can send it to Germany for application.
Do not send originals - only certified copies.
Once it is confirmed that all documents are in order, Uni-Assist or the regional council will be waiting for the IB results and issuing the VPD afterwards. You can only submit your application with a valid VPD.
Submit the application well in advance of the deadline which is normally the 15 Juli.
Wait for your admission decision. Usually, you will receive it via email.
