The linguistics skills I had to use were reading a lot of articles in spanish to learn about information regarding certain topics and write what I learned into the website. I also listenend to local news in mexico, and then used my spanish speaking skills to record my podcasts about different events. A challenge I faced during this project was finding a good and trustworthy news source to use for recording my podcasts.

English: In this project, I created a page in my site about National Independence day in Mexico. I learned that Mexico's Independence day is celebrated on September 16 and some traditions include fireworks, and folk dancing on the streets. In 1810, the campaign for independence was led by Miguel Hidalgo. Some challenges I had while making my page was describing the different foods that people eat on Independence day because they were very unique.

For my first essay for AP Language, I compared and contrasted Frederick Douglass and Malcolm X's views on education. My thesis was, " Douglass and Malcolm X both claim that an education provided them hope for freedom and a better life, and also paved their path to becoming leaders who fought for social justice which is still notably valid in modern society ." Writing this essay, I learned the importance of a defensible thesis, how to select specific evidence, and the significance of commentary.

Reflection: I felt fairly confident when writing this essay and I was able to use evidence from Henrietta Lacks and Frederick Douglass. I thought that I would get a 5 or a 6 and the grade I received was a perfect score of 6. My thesis for the essay was: “While generalizations of individuals may be useful in some circumstances including politics and law-making, it is important to not regard an individual as an abrasion or an idea, but rather a human being with their unique capabilities, accomplishments, and their own life story.” I got the point for my thesis and I believe that my thesis was pretty good. I got all 4 points for evidence and commentary and I did well with my commentary for all of my evidence. I got the sophistication point by refuting the counterargument in my third paragraph about how although generalizations of people may be helpful for law-making, it is important to not see them as an abstraction.

Reflection: Before writing the essay I was unsure if I would be able to find the different rhetorical devices throughout the reading passages but as I wrote the essay I felt pretty confident because I knew the plot of “The Crucible” and I was able to find two rhetorical choices in the passage.
My Thesis: Miller’s use of descriptive imagery explaining his visit to Salem coupled with his reflective tone comparing his own life to that of characters in the play reveal that he wrote “The Crucible” to detail the personal relationships among participants in the tragedy through the transcripts of witchcraft trials of 1692 which were almost abandoned. Evaluation: I received the full point for the thesis and was also given feedback that it was a “sophisticated thesis.”
I was given all 4 points for my evidence and commentary. I believe that I did well in connecting my evidence and commentary back to the initial question. I could improve on my third body paragraph by giving a specific example of how social media is connected to the purpose of the passages.
I receive the full sophistication point for my thesis statement as well as my explanation of the relevance of the writer’s rhetorical choices in today’s society.
A sentence I would like preserve for future reference is “Miller utilizes vivid imagery and a reflective tone in the passage to effectively discuss his purpose of writing “The Crucible” to detail the relationships of participants in the tragedy during an abandoned period of witchcraft trials which could further connect to social media in today’s society where the consequences of could be compared to the outcomes during the salem witch trials. For this assignment, I had to create a one-pager that summarizes the first part of the book by featuring Wiesel’s quote and surrounding it with quotes, images, and symbols that demonstrate how the book transformed Henrietta Lacks from an abstraction to a person with her own universe of secrets, treasures, anguish, and triumph. I used Canva to create my one-pager.

We chose a song that we liked and analyzed the lyrics to see if it could be analyzed as poetry. I chose the song "Wild World" by Jimmy Cliff and I came to a conclusion that songs can definitely be analyzed as poetry because while some people beleive that a song wihtout music would often be an awkward piece of writing with lumpy syllables, many songs have lyrics that could be woven into a story that could raise strong emotions to be analyzed as a poem.

I created a timeline of the events that occured during the period of 1800-1848. During this period, the market revolution had a significant effect on industrialization of the US through steam boats, railroads, canals, etc. Additionally, the Second Great Awakening was a religious revival that spurred significant movements in abolition, temperance, education, and asylum reform.
