Visual Arts Comp II
In this assignment, I learned how to use basic digital tools to create a design of the word "ChemVAS" using visual symbols of chemistry and art. By using the "sketchy" tool on sketch.io, I was able to incorporate density and value into my design as well. I used a watercolor background to contrast the colors of my design of the word "ChemVAS."

I was assigned a periodic table element for this assignment, and I had to create a digital artwork related to the element and what I had learned about it. Prior to working on the finished product, I performed research and idea development to learn more about the element Sodium (Na), which was assigned to me. Given the fact that sodium is frequently found in ocean water, I chose to represent sodium using the ocean (salt water). I then created a digital artwork of the ocean and its surrounding using the various digital tools on Photopea. The most challenging part of the task was trying to make the mountains look more realistic, but I found that painting the ocean using the smudge tool was fairly easy.

For my first day of pottery practice, I decided to create a bowl similar to those used by ancient civilizations. First I wedged the clay to get rid of the air bubbles. I then rolled my clay into a ball and used the pinch method using my fingers to create a bowl. I also used a variety of tools to add texture and designs to my bowl like the ancient civilizations did.

In this ceramics project, I was assigned to create a relief sculpture about one or more of my favorite things. It has to be a clay slab and therefore it needs to be somewhat flat. I chose to create a sculpture of a dog because I love dogs (even though I don't own one). To create this clay slab, I first wedged my clay and then used various different tools to sculpt a dog. After sculpting, I let it bone dry. I then fired my clay slab in a kiln, which releases the water molecules in the clay (explains the chemistry in ceramics.) Finally, I glazed my clay slab, and put it back into the kiln to fire it one last time. Some possible areas for improvements in my clay slab is the choice of colors. I didn't expect the colors to turn out so dull because when I first glazed it before firing, it was vibrant and the colors blended in together.
For the World History section of the deeply rooted project, we had to use a Quaker Oat can to explain and represent the traditional practices of an assigned religion. I was assigned with the religion Islam and I decorated my oats can to represent a ramadan lamp that people hang outside their houses during Ramadan. Inside the can I included prayer beads that I hanmade using beads, a prayer mat, a quaran, a taqiyah (skullcap), and Torah scroll that I also handmade (I can't write in Arabic so I improvised and wrote random lines to create letters that looked somewhat like Arabic)

For this assignment, I had to create a poster with a list of norms (Do's and Don'ts) about using using technology appropriately. I had to organize the norms in order of importance: 5 positive and 5 negative norms. (A list of Top 10) This assignment helped me learn how to use commands in Spanish.

We were assigned a Hispanic artist that we had to research about and then create a presentation to share what we learned about the specific artist with the whole class. I was assigned Joan Miro and I learned that his art reflects modern art. He has made sculptures in many different sizes and uses primary colors. His artwork uses geometric shapes and even though it may be simple, his art can be very expensive, for example, one piece cost 37 million dollars.

I wrote a book to explore creativity in literature. My book cover has a picture of the woods because my characters are trying to survive in the woods after their plane crashes in an unknown island. My book description: "For soon-to-be graduating seniors Aria Conley and four other classmates, a chance to go on a class trip to Peru turns into a desperate effort to survive while running from a mysterious shooter in an unknown island.
