Change Is Gonna Come Short Film
For this semester, we had a project that had a ton of work behind it. We had to create short, original films that would focus on the general topic of “Change”. With this topic, I selected my topic based on the current climate today, and that topic was police brutality and racial injustice. This was focusing on a Social Justice change, being one of the four changes we could select, including; Social Change, Personal Change, Change from COVID-19, or finally, environmental Change. I picked this topic to talk about it from a personal point of view. Everyone saw how this was affecting African Americans around the world but I wanted to show how I felt about it.This was very important, knowing all about the BLM movement and the news, but I wanted to add a personal touch to this topic. To begin my script, I had to think about what I wanted to talk about, the most abstract thoughts to plan this out. Some abstract concepts came to mind and I jotted that down. After finding the concepts, I wanted to think about how I can make it more personal, coming from my perspective. I jotted down how I felt about the current social climate and slowly formed it into a poem. This poem was about the personal aspects on why I’m scared somewhat of my own skin, leading to the creation of the title of my poem, “My Skin”. I did my fair share of research on the victims of racial injustice and police brutality, but I wanted this to be personal, so I left the research out of my final script. Additionally, I wanted this to stay in the formal of a poem, so I planned out every spoken line to still rhyme just like the draft I did earlier in this semester. Overall, the planning was pretty easy to do and putting it into script form was simple as well.
Now with both the draft and final draft done of the script, came the next important step, a storyboard. Before we ever even started on a storyboard, we had to look for inspiration to direct us in the right direction. These samples were from a variety of sources and media, from video games to movies to television shows. These were amazing and it helped me out a lot when I was planning my storyboard out. Most storyboards were digital, made from a storyboard-ing template, but I went one step further and did my one-hundred percent hand drawn. Some difficulties came from drawing it by hand. For instance, my handwriting is really neat, yet very small so anyone besides me will have difficulty reading the storyboard. So I had to go back over it and add red text, which was a bit larger, to ease peoples’ eyes when reading my storyboard. Most storyboards were about 8 boxes long, also being the minimum requirement, but I went a bit overboard, going to the length of having 12 boxes for my storyboard instead of 8. After finishing the storyboard, the actual easiest part came, filming. For me, filming and editing were by far the easiest parts for me, due to my style of learning and doing, having better times working with things I see than what I hear or what I have to repeat. Filming my shots were simple and easy with very few issues here and there. I got most of my shots in a single day, practically a single span of two hours actually but that's not important. After getting most shots, I started to edit, using WeVideo for my preferred editing software. To my surprise, WeVideo had exactly everything that I needed, but that’s where the second issue arises. I couldn’t save the video, so with the perfect idea from Mr. Prince and Mr. Davis, was to preview the video and record it using Screencastify, and it worked perfectly. That last issue was my largest hurdle, and a simple idea got over, well around it with little strain on myself. I guess I needed to work smarter and not harder.
Overall, this project was pretty alright for a PBL. I actually enjoyed some parts of it, and that surprises me even. I never really liked school projects but this was a nice change of pace. This experience was pretty different from most PBLs and I really enjoy that change. I’m still not a fan of films, especially with me centerstage, but I didn’t mind this one time and I don’t know why. This project is a really good way to express myself and I’m proud of my performance in general, even with some issues here and there. I learned a lot through this project and I’ll just maybe keep it for something ahead, I’ll place my bets.

Choice Board Reflection
Choice Board Reflection
For our final project in LiFE, my Literature and Film Class, we had to challenge ourselves with a choice board based on Science Fiction. We had multiple choices in the Choice Board, and out of all the choices, I chose to do poems. The criteria was twelve lines for each of the four poems but I was an exception because the ones I did were longer-free verse poems. I wanted to write poems simply because I can just throw ideas out and see what I like and dislike. When making the poems, it came easy to me, all I had to do was write out the drafts and get feedback from the teachers. Luckily, the feedback was great and my poem was on its way!
So in the first poem I wrote, "The Year is Twenty-Two, Twenty-Two'', I wanted to express the ideas of how civilization evolved further into the future. For a proper theme, I looked at many pieces of Science Fiction artwork, and a lot stood out to me. The works of Cornelius Dämmrich and Andrée Wallin allowed me to set a strong visual for the world I wanted to create when making my poem, and so I did. I wanted my world to be easy to identify as futuristic, and so I added some well known objects and ideals that many people of today think as "futuristic", like flying cars and whatnot. Additionally, I wanted to add my own spin on things, by adding phones that were holograms, objects could be cloned from a source, and even a public Space Elevator. I loved adding these types of ideas into the poem, but then I remembered I had to write a second poem. So I just saved some ideas for this and placed them into the next one.
The second poem is called "Space Elevator", very original name right? Anyways, I wanted to connect the worlds of both poems, so I did just that. I wanted to expand on the Space Elevator that I spoke of in the other poem. The development was simple and fruitful, I had so many other ideas after I started to develop it, like how its public to the people, working more as an attraction then some serious project. I never wanted these poems to be taken super seriously, so I added stuff like that to make it more fun. That wasn't the only thing I was planning when thinking about its tone. I wanted these poems to be fun images of what the future can look like, but also I wanted these to seem possible to do in our own future, like the A.I's driving cars around. I just had so much fun making these two poems and I'll be honest, I'm down to do more projects like this in the future.

I wanted to make more than a poem on a google doc, I wanted to make a world I can see in my mind, and I think I nailed it! I'm really proud of how much I did and just how stress free this was, it wasn't demanding or tiring, just me typing away while my mind drifts off into this world I created. I wouldn't want to change these, but I would want to make more if I could, to continue expanding this world I created, just maybe another time.

In L.I.F.E, the largest project of them all is the Kindred project where we read the book made by Octavia Butler. This project takes us working in groups to plan this out as a film, going through the whole film making process. I am the Artistic Director so I covered objectives such as planning with the posters, company logo, the elevator pitch and the catering. Additionally, I assisted with the total budget for the film
