Day 1 - Block/Bubble Lettering

For Day 1, I want to focus on block and bubble lettering.

Inspiration - Credit goes to designer Christopher Rouleau for his incredible Alphabet100 site.

Disclaimer - my current and past students should be experts in the field by now, so if any of you are participating, rather than whine that we've already covered this, I encourage you to take this on as a challenge and push yourself towards doing better, and trying something different this time. ;-)

Check out my video on block lettering and today's artistic challenge. When creating the majority of block and bubble letters, start with the letter, then simply draw another of the same below/above it. This works well with open letters such as M, W, or S. For a closed letter like A or P you need to be a little more creative, but I've included a demo in the video shared here.

For today's challenge, I'm including a printable Alphabet 50 template and a few amazing handouts from GraffitiDiplomacy. Don't be discouraged if your lettering looks rough - block and bubble letters get easier every time. Practice, practice, practice!
