Why Study VET?

HSC Standing

Dispelling the ATAR Myth:

Maximum ATAR recorded per VET course Past 3 Years:

Construction 94.35, Hospitality 99.10, IDT 96.80

It is possible to achieve a high ATAR whilst gaining a Trade qualification for your HSC.

Competency Based Assessment

Students work to develop competencies, skills and knowledge described in each unit of competency.

To be assessed as COMPETENT a student must demonstrate to a qualified assessor that they can effectively carry out the various tasks and combinations of tasks to the standard required in that particular industry.

There are generally no marks awarded in competency-based assessment other than written examinations. Students are not competing against each other, but rather a set of industry performance criteria.

Work Placement

A mandatory work placement experience is a NESA requirement of all VET students.  Students are required to do 70 hours of real life training and experience with a local employer. This is done during the school term for 5 days/35 hours each year. Students may find that they are offered ongoing employment with that company and some are fortunate enough to be offered an Apprenticeship.

Additional Information

-All VET subjects have an additional cost

-More than one VET subject can be studied, including EVET + SBAT.

-VET subjects align themselves well with other TAS subjects

i.e. Construction + Industrial Technology, Food Technology + Cookery
