Stage 6

Subject Selection Guide

Principals Introduction

Welcome to our online information portal regarding subject selection for Stage 6.

Choosing subjects for Years 11 and 12 can be a very stressful time for students and families. The purpose of this site is to provide you with as much information as possible about the structure and requirements of Stage 6 (Year 11 and 12) education, as well as the subjects we provide at St Joseph’s, to help you make an informed decision regarding your intended pattern of study.

Before looking at the courses on offer in Yr 11 students and their parents are encouraged to take time exploring the various support presentations provided on this page. Take your time to view information and videos about the HSC in general, and specific subjects available at St Joseph's presented by our Leaders of Learning.

To maximise performance in Year 11 and 12 it is vital that students have a thorough knowledge of the structure and requirements of the stage 6 course. Students are then encouraged to consider the path they wish to follow such as University, TAFE, workforce (apprenticeship/traineeship etc), determine the subjects that will help them along that pathway and choose accordingly.

Knowledge is the key for this process. Understand all the requirements of the credential you are aiming for. Be aware of any expected/presumed knowledge required for further study/employment opportunities. Use the information on this site, your Subject Information Handbook, teachers and other resources to ensure you are fully aware of what you need to do to ensure you maximise the opportunities available to you during and at the completion of your stage 6 studies.

Remember the Curriculum Office is always available to help with any questions or issues you may have during this process.
