Learning Resources

Introduction to Secondary Learning Continuity Resources Site

These resources have been developed to support teachers with planning and implementing remote learning. As outlined in the Remote Learning Protocols, Remote Learning calls for a more innovative and flexible approach to learning. Teachers should be aware of the changed conditions in the remote learning environment and ensure students are not overwhelmed with the volume or magnitude of content and tasks. Remote Learning outcomes should be linked to the syllabus outcomes and achieved through quality pedagogy and limited effective tasks per day. Students should not be working online for a whole school day.

This site aims to offer support and guidance to teachers to deliver quality learning experiences in the remote learning environment. It offers links to other sites, resources and suggested approaches to assessment and feedback.

Within the site there are a number of units developed in each KLA/subject area. The lessons and resources presented by no means meet the scope and sequence of all subjects in all schools and as such teachers are encouraged to share what they have developed. Schools are also able to adjust the scope and sequence that had been outlined prior to remote learning to better meet the current needs of students.

Where teachers do use the resources or units provided they are encouraged to customise the resources to meet local student needs and accommodate the digital platform upon which they are working. Teachers may also choose to pre-record lessons and share these with colleagues which will build up a bank of lessons allowing a greater resource base across the diocese.

Where possible assessment experiences should be included throughout units of work. These should be directly related to "Learning Intentions" and "Success Criteria". Teachers should think creatively about how they might assess student learning over the longer term and collect evidence of understanding. Digital platforms provide a great opportunity for students to present in a variety of ways that will make the learning more engaging. Students could make movies, animations, markup photos, sketch ideas or present learning across a digital journal in Keynote or Slides. Not all learning tasks should be digital, there could be a balance of paper based tasks as well.

It is envisaged during remote delivery that opportunities for assessment as, of and for, learning are to be incorporated into the learning. Feedback should then be based on the Success Criteria and may include opportunities for self or peer assessment with reference to supportive exemplars and rubrics.

It is important to include differentiation in the learning experiences as teachers would in a normal setting. It is the responsibility of teachers to adapt the learning experiences to suit their student's individual needs. Differentiated learning can easily be shared with individuals, or groups in Google Classroom.
