Hello NSE Families!
It is remarkable that we are almost one month into the school year. Our students are off to a great start and we have already found ourselves in a routine here at school. We have found that many of our students thrive with daily routines whether it be in or out of school. I hope your at home routines are going well and your students are settling in to the school year.
A reminder to have excuse cards turned in within three days of a students absence so they can be coded as excused. Families are permitted up to 10 parent excuse days for the entire school year. A medical excuse from a doctor is not included in the 10 day parent excuse count, so if your child does see a doctor, I highly encourage you to get a doctor's note if he/she is missing any school.
Our PTO has already begun planning for a variety of events. Whether it be the Read A Thon, Book Fairs, Family Nights, or financing activities for our students and staff, our PTO does great things to support our school. Please look for ways to get involved in our PTO if you are able. Meetings occur every fourth Thursday of the month in our school library.
In paretnership,
Mr. Young
Welcome Back! Here are a few notes from the nurse's office in order to have a healthier year!
Illness:
Please keep your student home if they are running a fever (100.0 or higher) or vomiting, have a bad cough, etc. Make sure you call the main office if they are staying home or you can fill out an online excuse card. If they are sick enough to see the doctor, please get a school note stating when they may return to school.
Please DO NOT send in medication with your student. A responsible adult must drop anything off at the nurse's office. We need a doctor's note for anything except cough drops.
If you choose to send in cough drops, please only send in a few and attach a parent note giving permission for your student to have them.
Health Hero:
Papers were previously sent home for your student to receive the flu vaccine here at school. If you would like them to receive a vaccine, please fill out the form and return it to the nurse. If you choose to not have the vaccine please disregard the paper. (Espaniol)
Clothing:
Please send in a change of clothing, to be kept in your student's locker or bookbag, just in case of accidents.
Check these with the change of seasons for weather appropriateness. Shorts get very cold in the wintertime.
Please let the nurses know if you have any questions.
The Weekend Food Program will begin at the end of September.
Papers were went home with students during the first week of September. If you would like to sign up for this program please return the form to school or contact our school counselor, Mrs. Mellott at kmellott@doversd.org.
