Happy February to all! I am told that the groundhog did not see his shadow so here is hoping to a mild end to the winter season. The district will be making up our one snow day from earlier this year on Friday, March 1. School will be in session on that day. In the event inclement weather does require the schools to close, the district may elect to call a Remote Learning Day. Should this be a possibility, iPads and materials would be sent home the day before any possible Remote Learning Day.
For families with students in grades 3, 4, and 5, I wanted to share this year's PSSA testing window. The ELA PSSA testing window is April 22 to 26, while the Math, Science, and Make-Up testing window is from April 29 to May 3. These are state mandated assessments for all students in grades 3 through 8. Please work to avoid scheduling doctor's visits or other appointments during these dates. Also, no educational trip forms (SERF passes) will be approved for students during these testing windows.

Read Across America
Read Across America
This year NSE will be recognizing Read Across America from Monday, February 26 through Friday, March 1, 2024. The theme for this year's event is to explore animals in different areas across out nation. Each day we will celebrate a differen type of animal from Dover, PA all the way to the state of Alaska! In addition to our traditional Spirit Days, which are listed below, classes will be provided the opportunity to explore a variety of texts in both book and digital form. We are excited to highlight and celebrate the importance of reading throughout this week!
Monday, February 26 - We are hitting the road for a trip across America to celebrate Read Across America. Wear your Dover gear/colors to school on Monday as we start our travels.
Tuesday, February 27 - We'll be in the Florida everglades today. Wear your safari gear or camo colors.
Wednesday, February 28 - We're headed into the Rocky Mountains to catch some hibernating black bears. Wear your pajamas to hibernate with them!
Thursday, February 29 - We're in Texas where the armadillo live. Wear your western wear.
Friday, March 1 - We finish out our week in Alaska to visit the arctic animals. Wear your white to blend in with the arctic snow.

While we love to recognize our students for all the wonderful things they achieve here at DASD, we also know it takes a village of teachers, administrative assistants, cafeteria staff, counselors, nurses, support staff, custodial staff, maintenance team members and administrators working together to support our students.
