Hello NSE Families,
I hope this communication finds you all well, having had an enjoyable Thanksgiving holiday. As we head into a busy time of the year, here at school we continue to move forward with our curricula and instruction. Students in grades 3, 4, and 5 will be participating in the first of two Study Island Benchmark assessments. This will provide teachers important information on how students are performing on grade level standards. After returning from break we will be getting into other mid-year reading and math assessments for all students.
Below you will see a flier regarding our December Family Fun night. This event is a collaboration between our PTO and our PROUD Council. Families will be able to shop at a holiday store as well as partake in crafts and hot cocoa. Admission to the event is a canned good that will be part of our PROUD Council's food drive. I am so pleased that these two groups are able to collaborate to host this event for our school.
Be well and have a wonderful holiday season!

It is that time of year again when we start looking at colds and stomach bugs. A couple of reminders:
Students need to be fever free, off of medication, such as Tylenol or Ibuprofen, and with no vomiting for 24 hours before returning to school. We define fever as a temperature over 100. Your student will not learn as well and may get his/ her classmates ill if they return before this time.
Encourage good hand washing after coughing and sneezing, using the toilet and before meals to help keep them in tip top health
As the days are getting colder please change out the extra set of clothing in the book bag to something warmer and remember to send along a coat on those chilly days ahead. (We recommend a change of clothes for all students in case of a spill and if the equipment is wet outside.)
If your child is showing signs of illness such as uncontrolled cough or repeated vomiting, please keep them home.
All medication needs to have a Doctors order and be delivered to school by a parent or other trusted adult. Students should never be transporting medication. The only exception is cough drops may be sent in with the student with a note giving permission to take during the school day. Please only send a few at a time, not the giant sized bag.
As always if you have any questions or concern regarding your child’s health please feel free to give me a call at 292-8070 ext 60701 or email me at kwallace@doversd.org

A reminder to all families that throughout the winter we will be getting our students outdoors as much as possible for recess. Please remember to have your child dressed appropriately for outdoor recess; wearing a coat, gloves, and a hat.
We appreciate your help in keeping our students warm while playing outdoors.
If your student is absent from school, please be sure to submit an excuse card (paper or virtual) within three days of his/her return to school.
Educational Trip forms (SERF Passes) are limited to 5 days throughout the entire school year. These days are included in the maximum 10 days of allowable parental excuses per year.
The district is also tracking early dismissals. A note is required in order for an early dismissal to count as an excused absence.
Dover Area School District's Attendance Policy (Policy 204) is aligned to the State of Pennsylvania's Compulsory School Attendance Requirements. Dover Area School Board recognizes that attendance is an important factor in educational success, and supports a comprehensive approach to identify and address attendance issues.
