What to expect...
I will explore ideas, plan my designs, create original art, reflect on my progress, and proudly share my work with others.
Throughout the school year, students will focus on learning and embodying the 9 Artistic Behaviors. These behaviors will be addressed through various projects and activities. Students will enhance their technical skills, demonstrate perseverance, envision and execute creative ideas, express personal narratives, observe the world around them, reflect on their artistic process, explore new techniques and materials, understand the historical and cultural contexts of art, and connect with their peers to build a supportive artistic community. This approach ensures that students not only develop their artistic abilities but also cultivate essential habits of mind that will support their growth as creative individuals.
UPPER SCHOOL ART CLASS CHOICE BASED ENVIRONMENT
In this choice-based learning environment, students have the autonomy to explore their artistic interests and develop their unique creative voices. They can choose to create the projects outlined in the units on sculpture fundamentals, drawing fundamentals, and painting fundamentals, which include engaging activities such as creating a papier-mâché animal head, a wire and tape bug, a value study, a hand study, a self-portrait, a color study, and landscape paintings in both acrylic and watercolor. Alternatively, students have the flexibility to substitute any of these projects with a project from Gibbons' "The Workbook for Art Students," allowing them to tailor their learning experience to their individual artistic goals and preferences. This approach fosters a dynamic and personalized educational experience, empowering students to take ownership of their artistic journey.
