Technology-Enhanced Learning

We provide a range of technology to support our students within our centres and programmes. Our FET service is committed to creating learning experiences that are supported by digital technology while also actively promoting digital skills and the benefits of digital citizenship within our programmes and centres.

Digital Hubs

Donegal ETB have introduced a number of digital hubs across our FET centres. The purpose of the Digital Hubs is to provide an inclusive learning space for both our staff and students.

The Digital Hubs themselves allow for increased accessibility and inclusion for learning. For example, some students might not have broadband facilities or other technological resources in their homes, and the digital hubs give you an opportunity to come in and use these resources. Spaces are available for students to book a place in one of the hubs to get support from a staff member. This could be anything from using the hub for internet access to support studies, how to access and use their email account or for help with printing an assignment.

A designated support tutor is available to support students and tutors in each centre at specified hours per centre. Please see the flyer for more information and to book in at your local Digital Hub.

Email Account

A Donegal ETB email account is available to all Donegal ETB students when they first begin their studies with us.  This email address can be used to communicate in a secure and safe manner with your course tutor, teacher or instructor. It also allows for a range of software supports, apps and free online file storage for all your files.

Device Loan Scheme

Donegal ETB offers a device loan scheme to students to support their studies. A Laptop, Chromebook or hybrid device (Surface Go), depending on your programme of study, can be signed out by a student. The device will have the appropriate software installed which will allow you to research for assignments or other self-directed activities which support your learning in the classroom or centre. The device, alongside the email address, also allows students to access learning remotely if any classes within your course are delivered in this mode.

Although the internet and mobile devices are a great resource, they also carry some risks. Be sure to practice good online safety habits to protect yourself and your personal information.

Assistive Technology

Software is available for students to support learning and, in particular, a range of assistive technologies are available if you have a specific disability or have learning support requirements.

For example, the ‘Immersive Reader’ software is available to support students with dyslexia in the classroom and is available on laptops and PCs.

C-Pens are also available. C-Pens are an assistive technology to support students. This is a pen that reads text and translates it into spoken words. It helps people with dyslexia or people who cannot read understand texts by reading out the text. It is designed to break down barriers for people with dyslexia in exams and study.

Screen-reading software is available for students with visual impairments.

Depending on specific needs, technology supports are available across our centres and services. If you need further information on these, you can speak with your coordinator or tutor.

Wi-fi & Internet Access

All of our FET centres are equipped with the most current broadband and have Wi-Fi access available for students.

Bring Your Own Device Policy

Donegal ETB is developing a Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) policy which will allow you to use your own computer or electronic device during your course if you prefer. We also have a device loan scheme, which you can learn more about on this page.

For further information on any technology support please contact your tutor, centre manager or course coordinator.
