APPROACH
Theoretical/project-based
This course introduces the students to the world of knitwear with the learning of basic hand-knitting techniques, and with the creation of handwork with knitting and crochet needles in the Knitwear 1 module. Once the behaviour and construction of knitting is understood, the students can change its structure to develop a unique and original approach to their samples. In the Draping and moulage 1 module, the students will learn and use the draping technique to support their fashion design projects, analysing and understanding the fabric behaviour in the development of shapes and models, working on the three dimensions of the human body.
The programme grants 12 credits, divided as follows:
KNITWEAR 1: 6 CFA
DRAPING AND MOULAGE 1: 6 CFA
Successful students will be able to:
KNITWEAR 1:
Use hand-knitting techniques
Develop an intuitive approach to devising and developing knitted pieces
Put together a knitwear samples book containing all the phases of a project
DRAPING AND MOULAGE 1:
Understand the basic rules of draping
Understand the behaviour of fabrics in relation to shapes and styles of clothing.
Handle fabrics and drape original and personal pieces.
KNITWEAR 1:
Through front lessons, practical exercises and regular reviews, the students will learn knitting techniques such as hand knitting, use of knitting needles and crochet, thus developing an intuitive approach to manual skills.
DRAPING AND MOULAGE 1:
Through front lessons, practical exercises and workshops, the students will learn the basic draping techniques focusing on the behaviour of different fabrics in the creation of garments, shapes and styles.
This is a theoretical/project based course.
Over the course, the students will carry out didactic activities that are functional to achieving the learning goals, that in both modules may include:
Front lectures
Development of individual projects
Individual study and research
Laboratories
Exercises and revisions
Individual sessions and tutorinG
Assessment criteria may include:
KNITWEAR 1: Submission of practical exercises, projects and papers
DRAPING E MOULAGE 1: Submission of practical exercises and research work
Further details on the specific tests will be given by the professor.
The final grade for this course will result from the weighted average of its modules.
