Form Your Group:
Each group will adopt one of the following stances about who should be primarily responsible for developing language learning materials:
Teachers – Argue that teachers best understand learner needs and classroom realities.
Curriculum Designers/Material Developers – Argue that trained professionals create pedagogically sound materials aligned with standards.
Students – Argue that involving learners leads to more relevant and motivating materials.
Publishers/Commercial Developers – Argue that large-scale developers have the expertise, technology, and funding to produce high-quality resources.
Research and Prepare:
Brainstorm and list at least three strong arguments supporting your group’s stance.
Anticipate counterarguments from other groups and prepare thoughtful rebuttals.
Find at least one quote, statistic, or real-world example to support your points.
Design Your Slide:
Create a one-slide visual aid that:
· Clearly states your group’s stance
· Lists 3–4 key arguments
· Includes a supporting quote or example
· Uses a clear, organized, and visual layout (images/icons encouraged)
Practice for the Debate:
Assign speaking roles to group members.
Rehearse your 3–5 minute presentation.
Prepare for live rebuttals or open-floor discussion.
