Opportunities

The Global Academy challenges all students to understand global diversity, and to become globally responsive, critical, and empathetic citizens.

Students will gain knowledge and experience through the study of world cultures, conflicts, and societal values and structures. The Academy will inspire students to to become global citizens through service learning, varied coursework, and travel experiences. The students’ greater understanding of the global society will empower them to contribute to the community and continue to be lifelong learners of the increasingly global world.

Across the United States, high schools with Model UN programs attend Model UN competitions. Each high school student is a country delegate and represents a different country that is a member of the United Nations to discuss/debate topics and issues that are important to and affect the world in order to create solutions by working together. Topics range from disease control to foreign affairs and everything in between. Students complete country profiles and write position papers/speeches.

At every meeting, we have a different country's food, talk about their current issues, and learn a new aspect of Model UN to prepare for our conferences!

We visit a wealth of locations and are usually able to accommodate up to 80 students on two buses. The traveling program has brought the experience of travel to hundreds of HHS students and dozens of teachers.

The HHS Traveling Program offers two travel opportunities yearly bringing even more options and the potential for high school credit from the tours. Yearly trips in the summer will include participation in an international high school Global Leadership Summit including a topic focused tour, participation in the WeShare program for HHS credit, and a 2 day leadership conference with world renowned guest speakers.

The Voice is an award-winning program advised by Dennis Brown and run by Huntley High School students. Every month, a new magazine is published, featuring everything from editorials on school issues to movie reviews; the website is updated regularly and is expected to have articles being put out every other day. Our funding is raised entirely through advertising sales. If you have any questions about advertising opportunities, please e-mail dbrown@district158.org.
