Equity as a mindset

Learner-informed knowledge is a prerequisite for integrating technology in an inclusive way so that students from all communities can effectively use it to achieve their goals.

CLASSROOM MILESTONES

Since joining VILS, teaching with digital resources has become the norm.  Because of the mastery of digital fluency by both our teachers and students, teachers are free to focus on teaching academic content rather than procedural technology use.

The campus culture has shifted from implementing technology tools towards embracing holistic technology integration, for the purpose of increasing student achievement.

COVID-19 Device Usage Analysis

When in-person learning was abruptly moved to remote instruction at the onset of the pandemic, instruction flowed uninterrupted.  The shift that had occurred in our teaching practices, made this transition seamless. Our data shows students were still actively engaged, participating, and learning.

Career Exploration

Events such as Verizon's Career Exploration Day provide students an opportunity to learn about possible careers in marketing, cybersecurity, engineering and more.

COmmunity IMPACT

Family events encourage parent-child interaction. There are multiple opportunities for parents and students to interact in fun environments where they learn together. Irving ISD recognizes that learning doesn't stop at the end of the day and students should be encouraged to pursue their academic passions at home. This is accomplished through students have full internet access and access to our library resources.

Teacher Spotlight

Ms. Katherine Ward is an excellent example of a new teacher who has embraced the six elements of success. She has learned to leverage the use of the many tools available to master her teaching craft and improve student learning outcomes.  She is evolving into a teacher leader sharing her best practices at the campus and district level.

"While we strive to purposefully grow our educators in their respective content areas, the VILS TLC has helped enhance Ms. Ward's teaching through providing opportunities for innovation and digital skill building" -- Anna Brown, District ELAR Curriculum Specialist
