DGS closely follows the regulations set forth by the government of Vietnam in relation to our practices at school. We follow government rules in terms of opening, access, and health practices within the school. We also comply with regulations set up by DTD. Parents and Students will always be informed of any change in relation to Covid policy and practice.
DGS has a child safety policy and a set of procedures to maintain the safety of all children. We are committed to the safety and well-being of all members of the community and follow our published procedures. The following is from our "Faculty Handbook":
DGS is committed to providing a safe environment for its students. Child abuse is a violation of a child’s human rights and is an obstacle to the child’s education as well as to their physical, emotional, and spiritual development. DGS endorses the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, of which our host country, Vietnam, is a signatory. DGS also follows all applicable Vietnamese laws for child protection.
The school relies on preventative practices to reduce risk and ensure child protection and will respond effectively to situations that are harmful to our students and our school community. All personnel on campus working directly or indirectly with students are required to sign DGS's Code of Conduct each school year and attend training on Student Safeguarding.
All DGS community members are required to report any suspected cases of physical, psychological, or sexual child abuse to a supervisor, the principal or counselor. This information will be shared with the Child Safety Team including the Head of School. The Head of School and/or the Child Safety Team will conduct an inquiry of every report of abuse following a carefully designed course of due process, as outlined in the policy manual and reach a decision on referral to professional and/or law enforcement officials. The Advisory Board will be appropriately informed of all such cases.
For more information, please refer to DGS procedures on child protection.
If a student is endangering themselves or others, the adult may need to use physical restraint to ensure the safety of students, refer to the DGS Physical Restraint Procedure.
All adults on campus who directly or indirectly interact with students such as employees, volunteers, consultants, independent contractors, etc. are required to complete a government-issued background check or police clearance certification. The background check must be valid and dated within the last six months and issued from the most recent place of residence. Because of the COVID situation, some amendments to this requirement may apply (for example, any police check used to obtain a valid Visa in Vietnam, regardless of date, may apply. COVID complications may temporarily affect process.) Employees are required to obtain an official translation for certificates issued in languages other than English. Any conviction or pending criminal charge may disqualify a person from employment. The School reserves the right to conduct additional background checks as required.
Spouses and adult children of DGS employees using school facilities are required to obtain a background check as well.
DGS uses the school nurse at DTD for all health services. Students can go to the main office if they are feeling sick or have health issues.
Parents should inform the school office if their child has health issues of which the school should be aware to maintain the health and safety of the child.
In case of emergencies such as fire, earthquake or the presence of an intruder, please follow the directions of teachers and staff. Instructions for safety measures are posted within the school and drills will be practiced to maintain safety. Please carefully follow all instructions during drills and remain silent.
