At DGS the bulk of your child’s learning comes from being engaged at school with their teachers and peers. Your child’s participation and their contribution are key aspects to learning at our school.
However, we recognize that your child may occasionally be absent from school. In the case of prolonged absencee, or a large number of acccumulated absences, academic standing will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis. Please read the attendance policy for details on both planned and unplanned absences.
We believe that the DGS learning goals, particularly the school-wide goals, can be met when the student is present and part of the school learning community.
Every student contributes to the community of learners. There is a negative impact when any community member is not present to participate.
We understand that students will miss school due to occasional illness.
We understand that students will occasionally miss school for other acceptable reasons.
For a planned absence, parents must get permission for their child to miss school in advance.
When permission is granted, it is expected that assignments will be submitted when the student returns to school
If a student’s planned absences result in an inability to be successful in school, the administration and the family will re-evaluate if DGS is the right place for the student.
Depending on the circumstances of an unavoidable extended absence, Student Support staff may develop a learning plan in coordination with the student and parents in order to assist the student during the absence.
In the case of any absence, students are responsible for determining what they missed, and completing assignments in a timely manner as determined by the teacher.
Parents, please support your child and assist them in communicating with their advisor and their teachers about missing work.
Generally, assignments due on the day of absence will be due upon the student’s return to school.
For an extended absence, Advisors will work with students and teachers to create a manageable timeline for completion of missed work.
If your child will miss one or several full school days
Please submit a request via attendance@dgs.org.vn with your child’s full name, grade, advisor, and the reason for the planned absence at least 24 hours in advance.
The purpose is to enable the school and the advisor to determine the student’s needs and the potential impact of the planned absence. The school will communicate with the parent(s) if we have concerns about the negative impact of a planned absence on their child.
After DGS has approved a planned absence request, parents will fill out this form for official records, and parents will inform the bus monitor.
If your child will be late to school or will be picked up early
Please send an email to attendance@dgs.org.vn with your child’s full name, grade, and advisor, letting us know the reason for the absence and the time your child will arrive at/leave school. Once approved, please fill out this form for official records and inform your bus monitor.
As soon as you determine your child will not be able to attend school, please inform your child’s bus monitor and fill out this form to report.
