One of the goals of the SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT- which is the blueprint to achieve a better and more sustainable future for all is QUALITY EDUCATION because education enables upward socioeconomic mobility and is a key to escaping poverty.
As Chris Grosser once said, “Opportunities don’t happen. You create them.” Hence, the Sirao Integrated School presents this Continuous Improvement project entitled 123MATHanas! Wherein creating greater opportunities for quality education is always one of the priorities even this time of the pandemic.
We cannot build a great building on a weak foundation and so as in Mathematics. The foundation in Mathematics starts at the primary level in which the fundamentals in reading, writing, and solving are inculcated. Developing numeracy skills is best in the early grades in which children learn how to read and do mathematics.
Upon reviewing and understanding the Sirao Integrated School EGMA results, it is shown that 33 out of 47 pupils (70%) of Grade 2 were considered non-numerates in the school year 2019-2020.
Thus, we found out that in the current year during the EGMA pretest Grade 3 had 28 non-numerates out of 49 learners. This is the level that needs immediate intervention because this is the grade level where learners are expected to be capable of solving Math basic operations.
The CI team designed a project proposal entitled 123MATHanas! to build a strong foundation in Mathematics and lessen non-numerates specifically in doing subtraction. There are 15 learners identified as non-numerates out of 25 pupils and recipients of this project.
