Numeracy skills are crucial especially in producing highly skilled graduates for the country. Even the basics should be well inculcated among the students for them to have the necessary skills to relate with everyday mathematical situations in their individual lives such as making purchases, estimates, and financial micromanagement. The basics are important as higher mathematics works on the foundations set by the basic, and no advancement can occur if the roots are not firmly planted. And with good basics, higher numeracy skills will become more likely to be learnable for our students for them to undergo greater pursuits in engineering, business, technology, and other rigorous endeavors which our country can benefit from.
On a crucial note, the presence of non-numerates are of a grave concern as these need all the help they can muster to be elevated from such position. Locally, efforts from the school are necessary as the institution shares the vision to improve the situation of these people. These non-numerates necessitates that a foundation should be built within them.
It is high time to embrace standards and pursue efforts that will hone students for a better standing in numeracy skills. KAMAY (Kaagapay at Aalay sa mga Mag-Aaral na Ating Yinayakap) aims to be responsive to the current situation while also holding standards at its core to foster competitive and high-quality numeracy skills among the students. With its arm COUNT (Centering on Upgrading Numeracy Tenacity), addressing the necessary gaps and building firm foundations for a numerate future citizenry will be at hand. The program ensures that all efforts are expended into addressing non-numeracy and even improving the entirety of the students’ numeracy skills.
Education is a continued service for our people, and let it be that our efforts to make quality citizenry never cease and continually improve to cater to the higher ideals of humanity.
