SLAC Session Showcases Effective Teaching Strategies
BQUES conducted another School Learning Action Cell (SLAC) session yesterday, March 17, aimed at improving the competence of teachers in the teaching–learning process.
During the session, the two Master Teachers of the school, Cresal Ven T. Ecoy and Elwin R. Intervencion, demonstrated classes for Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 teachers, respectively.
Ecoy presented a lesson to her Grade 3 learners on expressing ideas in time-order and procedural texts. Meanwhile, Intervencion delivered a lesson on describing the solar system and its components.
A post-conference was conducted with School Principal Ireene P. Saligumba and all teachers to reflect on the demonstration teaching sessions. During the discussion, teachers shared positive feedback highlighting that the Master Teachers were able to: Model effective application of content knowledge within and across curriculum areas; Develop and apply effective teaching strategies that promote critical and creative thinking, as well as other higher-order thinking skills; Demonstrate effective and constructive classroom management through positive and non-violent discipline to ensure a learning-focused environment; and Implement well-planned and developmentally sequenced teaching and learning processes that meet curriculum requirements and varied teaching contexts.
Teachers also noted the effective integration of ICT, including the use of videos, Kahoot and other technology-based activities to enhance learner engagement.
Furthermore, the participants observed the congruency of all parts of the lesson and the clear, well-organized presentation of the topic. A positive and orderly learning environment was maintained throughout the class. Lessons from other subject areas were seamlessly integrated to enrich the discussion. Important concepts were visibly posted on the walls in addition to those presented on the TV screen. Clear rubrics were also presented and effectively utilized during the activities, among other notable teaching practices. Learners were highly engaged during the session, actively participated in the activities and were closely guided during group tasks.
The session concluded with a collegial evaluation of the teaching strategies focusing on their effectiveness in promoting learner achievement in literacy and numeracy.

CANVA Powers Creation of Data-Driven Learning Resources
Another meaningful School Learning Action Cell (SLAC) session was conducted at BQUES on February 27 from 1:00 to 5:00 in the afternoon. The activity began with the singing of the Philippine National Anthem conducted by Noviene Q. Abril, Teacher II, followed by an opening prayer led by Lina C. Salvilla, Teacher II. The checking of attendance was facilitated by Suzette A. Relatado, Teacher I.
After the preliminaries, the session commenced. Rachel Anne S. Lagunay, Teacher II, introduced the features of CANVA and guided the teachers in creating their accounts. She also provided an overview of the CANVA dashboard to help participants become familiar with the platform. Meanwhile, Mary Sweetheart Vaniza C. Estimada, Teacher III, demonstrated how to navigate the application and taught the participants basic layouting techniques for designing instructional materials.
As part of the workshop, teachers created learning resources anchored on the least learned competencies for the third quarter. The activity emphasized a data-driven approach to ensure that the developed materials address specific learning gaps among learners.
The session also included a discussion on the End-of-School-Year Assessments, particularly the CRLA, PHIL-IRI and RMA. These were discussed by Ireene P. Saligumba, School Principal I, Melanie M. Datulayta, Teacher III and Annabel C. Suelo, Teacher III.
Cresal Ven T. Ecoy, Master Teacher II, served as the session facilitator who also presented the objectives, while Maria Victoria R. De Leon, Teacher III, and Marife S. Fabiana, Teacher III, acted as documenters.
Before the session concluded, teacher-participants accomplished the LAC Reflection Form to capture their insights and learning from the activity.
