Benito J. Quibod Elementary School (BQUES), formerly known as New Baclayon Elementary School, is a public elementary institution established in the 1950s. The school is strategically located along the provincial highway of Barangay New Baclayon, Municipality of Malalag, Davao del Sur. It is approximately 4.5 kilometers from the Poblacion Malalag and 3.5 kilometers from the Municipality of Sulop.
The school occupies Lot 5914, Cad-25, with a total land area of 1.4087 hectares (14,087 square meters). Its accessible location enables it to serve learners from Barangay New Baclayon and nearby communities
Barangay New Baclayon is predominantly an agricultural community. Farming serves as the primary source of income among most households. Other residents engage in small-scale entrepreneurship, including the buying and selling of dry goods and native products. A portion of the community members are professionals employed in private enterprises and government agencies.
Based on the 2018 barangay records, the educational attainment of residents is distributed as follows: 40% have completed elementary education; 40% have finished secondary education; and 20% have earned college degrees.
The community population is composed mainly of Bisaya residents (approximately 95%), while about 5% belong to the Taga Kaulo and Muslim tribes. The cultural diversity contributes to the inclusive character of the school environment.
The school maintains collaborative relationships with stakeholders, including parents, local officials, and community leaders, who actively support school programs and activities.
The establishment of the school in the 1950s was made possible through the initiative of Casimiro Izarde Jr., the first School Administrator. The early settlers of New Baclayon were migrants from Baclayon, Bohol.
One of the pioneering residents, Benito J. Quibod, donated a parcel of land to Teniente del Barrio Cristituto Pandag, who subsequently donated the property for school use. This act of generosity laid the foundation for the establishment and continued operation of the institution.
In 2010, New Baclayon Elementary School was officially renamed to Benito J. Quibod Elementary School through a Sangguniang Bayan Ordinance, in recognition of the contributions of Benito J. Quibod to the community and the school.
