By offering a variety of skill-enhancing programs, trainings, and workshops that will serve both their own needs and interests as well as those of their communities, the Alternative Learning System of SDO Balanga City continuously creates chances for its learners.
On January 23, 2023, at the Covered Court of Barangay Talisay, Balanga City, the ALS Balanga City held a training session titled "Dishwashing Liquid and Fabric Softener Making," in collaboration with the Bataan Peninsula State University Main Campus Extension and Service Office. 138 people in all participated in the course.
Bernadeth B. Gabor, Ph.D., Director of Extension and Service Office, led the training. The trainer discussed the process in Dishwashing Liquid and Fabric Softener Making. The different materials for making were presented, like the pitcher, funnel, stirrer, containers, and the DIY kit. The following steps in making dishwashing liquid were clearly discussed and demonstrated. Stir the SLES in a bowl, then add the industrial salt and stir until completely dissolved. Then, in the small bottles, combine all of the chemicals, including edta/bkc, neutralizer, preservative, stabilizer, degreaser, foam booster, CDEA, and colorant. Mix it well and continuously. Let the bubbles subside overnight.
In order to help the learners make a living, this program provided them with information on how to develop and produce goods for both personal and professional usage. The fact that the trainees are adults and teenagers who are not enrolled in formal school and some of whom are starting their own families and need a side business to supplement their income is another factor that makes the training intriguing.
