What are they?
Making play-dough creatures is fun, but making them with light-up eyes and moving parts is even more enjoyable. We thought it would be better still if we could make the circuitry out of the dough itself!
Most play dough is already conductive, but we needed a way to insulate the conductive dough. We came up with a sugar-based dough that works well as an insulator. It’s pliable and resistant to blending with the conductive dough.
Squishy Circuits is very simple and is based on two play doughs – one that is conductive (electricity flows through it) and one that is insulative (does not allow electricity to flow through it). Power is supplied by a 4AA battery pack and travels through the conductive dough to provide power to LEDs (Light Emitting Diodes), buzzers, or motors.

Booking Kits

Each kit contains 12 Squishy Circuits packs (4 deluxe and 8 standard), as well as:
- LED's, Battery Packs, Motors, Buzzers, and Conductive Dough
Reminders:
- Additional Supplies Required:
- Although conductive dough is provided, you may want to supplement this with some of your own.
- Each pack requires 4 AA batteries which come with the kit, but may need to replenished by the borrowers if they loose power.
- Students imaginations will help determine what other supplies are needed.
- Never touch the two battery terminals together as this will create a short circuit and can result in severe burns.
- Never attach the battery terminals directly to the LED’s as this will burn the LED’s out and may cause them to pop.
- When learning about coding and robotics have students work in groups of two or three. This helps with generating ideas, problem solving and avoiding frustration.
