Sports

Unstoppable by Dan Freedman

Fourteen year old twins, Roxy and Kaine, are both talented at sports, one at tennis and the other at football.

Roxy dreams of playing at Wimbledon and Kaine wants to be a professional footballer.

Kaine is constantly in trouble at home and at school, living in an area where gang culture and knife-crime is an everyday threat; leading a good life is tough.

When a tragedy occurs, life will never be the same again. This story is much more than a book about sports. You will read this book until the end without a doubt.

I have never felt so uncomfortable reading a book, yet I could not put it down. A group of homeless teenagers, many of them runaways, have been brought together to take part in a fundraising Cage Fight. The more dangerous the fight, the more funds they will receive via the pay-per-view show. Living in London's old underground system, they only know each other by their stage names and mustn't share their stories with anyone. How can they survive if they don't trust any one, not even each other?

His cousin introduces him to the game of basketball but when trouble follows him around it is difficult to resist!

This is another book written in verse which keeps the story moving fast and the pages turning.

Charlie Merrick's Misfits by Dave Cousins

Not being hugely into football I was incredibly surprised by how much I completely loved this book about a truly terrible football team. They are determined to enter a competition where the prize is to play a warm up game at the world cup. The book takes the form of the competition entry and is full of doodles, football facts and match reports. PLUS, all the characters are great and it is really funny!
