I love Elizabeth Laird books. Her books are really accessible and just great stories. Oranges in No Man's Land is an adventure about a young girl trying to save her old, ill granny during the civil war in Lebanon. During her adenture there are some touching acts of kindness in a time of adversity which makes this book particularly relevant in our current circumstances.
If you enjoy this, I would also recommend The Fastest Boy in the World by Elizabeth Laird.

After their friend is tragically killed in an accident his three friends want to take him to a place in Scotland which bears his name - Ross. After stealing his ashes from his parents’ home they set off to travel from Cleethorpes to Kircudbrightshire in Scotland with a limited budget and only a couple of spare t-shirts. The budget becomes considerably less when rich pal Kenny leaves his rucksack on the train during one of their hurried train changes.
This is the story of the incidents that befall them on their travels and the voyage of learning about themselves and their good friend Ross. It is quite believable that the boys made this trip and with the right reasons in their hearts.
Quite an easy read but quick moving and interesting.
