Shout out to our Safe and Civil Schools Foundations Team: Mrs. Patterson, Mrs. Polhemus, Mr. James, Ms. Dean, Ms. Hampton, and Mrs. Delinger (she couldn't make it, but will attend the other sessions). We started a training which will provide strategies to improve school culture. This team will work with teachers and staff to develop and implement these strategies. I was very impressed with the ideas and discussion of the team. State department personnel also commented on the rich discussion, insightful comments, and problem solving that they heard from this team of teachers.

In order to ensure students feel safe at all times and in all locations, consider how we can each contribute:
Hallways: Be present. Often, students will not engage in negative behavior if they see a teacher. However, if teachers are consistently present, students will anticipate your presence and will be less likely to engage in negative behavior.
Bathrooms: Consider intermittent restroom schedules. Perhaps you do not allow students to go to the restroom the first 15 minutes of class and the last 10 minutes of class. Or, your grade level or family group can plan a designated, staggered window of time when you will allow students to take restroom breaks. Whatever works for you!
Our school-wide discipline is off to a great start! Thank you for working together to fix those broken windows. Students are starting to understand that misbehaviors and civil unrest will not be the norm and will not be accepted. We truly have some great kids!
