Standard 7
Building Professional Capacity
Building Professional Capacity
Building professional capacity has many components to it, such as interviewing, evaluations, professional development, and engaging in collaboration. This needs to be done by all stakeholders of the system, but the standard needs to be set by the building leader in order to provide clear and explicit expectations of what professional capacity entails.
This artifact is a mock up of an elementary teacher job posting and interview questions. It was completed during EDL 279 during the spring 2023 semester.
To cultivate a system with people who strive for the goals and improvement that is needed for student success is not an easy task, but a necessary one. Completing mock interviews allowed me to meet standard 7 by processing what it would take to hire high quality and effective teachers. In an interview, you have a limited time to gain a sense of whether or not someone is the best fit for the position. It is important to have clear look fors when going through the hiring process.
This artifact is a visual aid that shows the best practices and steps for an effective evaluation of a staff member, including walk-throughs, pre-conferences, formal observations, and post-conferences. It was created during EDL 278, in the fall of 2022.
Evaluation is an important part of being a building leader. There are many components to evaluations that allow for one to coach staff members in their areas of improvement. This artifact demonstrates my proficiency in standard 7, due to my breaking down the professional components that are entailed with evaluations. This is an important point of building professional capacity.
