Equity, Inclusiveness, and Cultural Responsiveness
Equity, Inclusiveness, and Cultural Responsiveness
Creating a space where equity, inclusivity, and cultural responsiveness are at the center of all that's being done is a vital piece to being an effective administrator. Having a diversity, equity, and inclusion team is just of the many ways this can be ensured. It is important to get the diverse voices of your district involved and represented in different ways.
For this artifact, I conducted research on a chosen topic within the DEI realm. I chose to research systemic racism in public schools and wrote a paper on my findings. This was written during EDL 274, in the spring of 2022.
There is the notion that systemic racism is not happening within schools, and that fact is simply not true. This artifact demonstrates my proficiency in standard 3 because of the research put into writing this paper. It discusses the different impacts that systemic racism has on our public schools and the lack of equity and inclusiveness as a result of it.
For this artifact, my team of peers set up and conducted a mock IEP meeting. We were each given roles to play during the meeting and conducted it in two different ways. We did one meeting that went smoothly, and one meeting that did not. This was done during EDL 277 in the fall of 2022.
IEP meetings are about so much more than setting goals for an individual. It's about allowing the voices of everyone on the IEP team to be heard, and doing what's best to set the student up for success in the future. This artifact demonstrates my proficiency in standard 3, by going through every aspect of an IEP meeting, and doing so in a way of that shows what can be done wrong.
