Learning Intention: understand the impact of the Fall of Singapore on World War II
Success Criteria: I can:
Understand the geographical and strategic importance of Singapore to Britain and the region (including Australia).
Understand how the British underestimated the Japanese.
Identify Japanese tactics for success and the results of these.
What can happen when an army knows too little about its enemy?Â
Throughout history, battles have been lost not because of inferior numbers, weapons and other resources but because of inferior leadership, organisation and knowledge. This was the case with the fall of Singapore in 1942. In the following few months it would seem as if nothing could halt the Japanese advance.
