Activity 2 - The Treaty of Versailles (Copy the following passage and the source below on the conditions of the treaty)
The armistice of 11 November 1918 brought about the ceasefire that ended World War I. in January 1919, the victorious Allies met at the Paris Peace Conference to decide the terms they would impose on Germany and the defeated Central Powers.
On May 7, 1919, after much disagreement and discussion, Germany was presented with the terms, Germany had little choice other than to accept these. On June 28, 1919, Germany signed the treaty at the Palace of Versailles. Article 231 of the treaty stated that Germany was solely responsible for the outbreak of war.
