Visit to the National Institute of Plant Genome Research (NIPGR), New Delhi

An educational visit to the National Institute of Plant Genome Research (NIPGR), New Delhi, was organized for the fourth-year students of the Department of Botany, Deshbandhu College on 14 November 2025. The visit was conducted under the guidance of Prof. Aparna Nautiyal and Dr. Saurav Singh Deo, Assistant Professors of Botany, whose efforts provided students with a valuable opportunity to gain exposure to advanced research facilities and modern techniques in plant genomics and biotechnology.
Educational Visit: Neela Hauz Biodiversity Park (NHBP)
Our academic field visit to the Neela Hauz Biodiversity Park (NHBP) formed an integral component of the Semester VII curriculum and provided valuable exposure to applied ecological restoration, wetland ecology, and bioremediation. Situated near Sanjay Van in South Delhi, this 4.5-hectare biodiversity park stands today not merely as a green space, but as a living laboratory that demonstrates how scientifically planned, nature-based solutions can successfully revive severely degraded urban ecosystems.
Visit to Regional Mushroom Center, Sonepat

As part of the curriculum of SEC–IV, an educational visit was organized to the Regional Mushroom Center, Sonepat, Haryana on 2nd February 2026. The visit aimed to give students practical exposure to mushroom cultivation and help them understand its importance in sustainable agriculture.
The trip was planned and coordinated by Dr. Kumar Shantanu. A group of 50 students participated in the visit with great interest and enthusiasm. They were accompanied by faculty members Dr. Madhu Rani, Dr. Anjana Singh, Dr. Abhay Pratap Vishwakarma, Dr. Ashish Kumar Choudhary, Dr. Priyanka Yadav, and Dr. Ankit Kumar.
Research Facility Visit : School of Biotechnology, JNU, New Delhi

The fourth-year undergraduate students went for a day’s visit to the School of Biotechnology at Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), New Delhi, on 12th February, 2026. As biotechnological interventions continue to evolve at a rapid pace, it is vital for the students to bridge the gap between theoretical coursework and the practical rigors of research environment.
Industrial Visit : Visit to Mother Dairy Plant, Patparganj

On 19th Feb 2026, the 4th-semester Life Science students, specializing in the Industrial & Environmental Microbiology paper, embarked on an insightful industrial visit to the Mother Dairy plant in Patparganj, guided by Dr. Abhay Pratap Vishwakarma.
The primary objective of this visit was to provide students with firsthand exposure to an industrial setup and gain a comprehensive understanding of milk processing.
Educational Visit : Yamuna Biodiversity Park

The Botanical Society “Vrinda” of the Department of Botany, Deshbandhu College, organized an educational visit to Yamuna Biodiversity Park, Delhi, on 25 February 2026. The visit was conducted under the guidance of the Society Advisor, Dr. Anjana Singh, accompanied by faculty members Dr. Roshni, Dr. Rajendra, Dr. Kumar Shantanu, Dr. Madhu, Dr. Abhay, Dr. Ashish, Dr. Shubhangani, Dr. Priyanka, and Dr. Ankit. A total of 75 students participated in the visit along with two non-teaching staff members, Mr. Ravi and Mr. Dharmendra. Yamuna Biodiversity Park is an important conservation and ecological restoration site located in North Delhi on the floodplains of the River Yamuna. Developed to preserve and showcase the rich biodiversity of the Yamuna river basin, the park spans approximately 457 acres. It comprises a diverse landscape of wetlands, grasslands, floodplain forests, medicinal and herbal gardens, a fruit conservatory, a butterfly conservatory, and well-designed nature trails representing native ecosystems.

An educational visit to Amrit Udyan at Rashtrapati Bhavan on 14th February 2025 was organised as a part of an interdisciplinary exploration of horticultural excellence. The Rashtrapati Bhavan is the official residence of the Honourable President of India. It is an architectural sensation, and its most beautiful gardens are Amrit Udyan (formerly known as the Mughal Gardens). The Udyan spans 15 acres and is a masterpiece of landscape design, featuring Herbal Gardens, the Bonsai Garden, Arogya Vanam, and a stunning display of seasonal blooms. The visit offered invaluable insights into professional landscaping, plant diversity, and sustainable gardening, bridging the gap between theory and practice. The Amrit Udyan reflects the beauty of India’s rich heritage and colonial past. It is the symbol of beauty; it attracts thousands of visitors during its annual openings.

The visit to the Mother Dairy, Patparganj on 28th February 2025, an educational trip was organized by the Department of Botany as a part of the practical curriculum activity for the DSE- Industrial & Environmental Microbiology, under the guidance of Dr. Abhay Pratap Vishwakarma and Dr. Anjana Singh.
On 3rd April 2025, a field trip was organized for the first- year students by Department of Botany, Deshbandhu College, University of Delhi. The students visited the ‘Aravalli Biodiversity Park’, A nature reserve of Delhi under the Delhi Development Authority. The Aravalli Biodiversity Park is being developed at 693 acres of land that was overmined and completely infected with exotic Prosopis juliflora (Sw.) DC. (synonym of Neltuma juliflora (Sw.) Raf., Vilayati kikar) (Fabaceae), and has lost its native biodiversity. Almost all the first year students participated in this field trip, as the park aims to create ideal setting for the vanishing native of flora and fauna. Besides, the park acts as a natural laboratory for students and researchers to explore and learn complex ecological principles .
4TH APRIL 2025
The visit to the Department of Biotechnology, South Campus, University of Delhi on April 4 was organized by Department of Botany, Deshbandhu College as a part of the practical curriculum activity for the DSC-16- Plant Biotechnology subject. The primary of the visit was to introduce students to advance laboratory equipment and provide hands on exposure to modern by technological tools And to introduce with developments in the field of biology. The visit was guided by our respected faculty members, Dr. Preeti Rawat and Dr. Shubhangi Sharma.

A “Virtual Tour To The Indian Sundarbans" was organized by Department of Botany, Deshbandhu College, University of Delhi on April 26, 2022. The invited Speaker for the event was Dr. Krishna Ray, Associate Professor, Department of Botany, West Bengal State University, India. The speaker took the participants on a virtual tour of Indian Sundarbans through her awe-inspiring videos and photographs. The participants were mesmerized by beauty and diversity of the flora and fauna of this beautiful mangrove ecosystem. The event provided the participants an opportunity to get a first-hand experience of the ecological restoration work done by Dr. Ray and her team to protect this fragile ecosystem from degradation.
The virtual tour was attended by more than 85 student and faculty members from different colleges and universities. The event was convened by Dr. Preeti Rawat, Assistant Professor, Department of Botany, Deshbandhu College, University of Delhi under the guidance of the Teacher-In-Charge, Dr. Aparna Nautiyal.

Yamuna Biodiversity Park located in Wazirabad, New Delhi is a natural conservation site for specific group of endangered plants. A group of 70 students from B.Sc. (H) Botany and B.Sc. (P) Life Science were accompanied by the faculty members from Department of Botany. The Yamuna Biodiversity Park is spread over an area of approximately 457 acres near Wazirabad village on the flat alluvial plains of the Yamuna. It has become a home for biologically rich wetlands, grassland communities, a wide variety of fruit yielding species and an abundance of medicinal herbs. The Park also comprises a native flora and fauna which used to exist a 100 years ago and then became extinct locally. The main attractions were migratory birds, and the wetland ecosystem.

The field visit to Botanical garden of Indian Republic (BGIR), Noida, Uttar Pradesh was organized as part of curriculum in Plant systematics paper. The students of B.Sc. (H) Botany II-Year accompanied by faculty members visited different sections of the garden related to medicinal plants, cacti and succulents, ferns and Pteridophytes, aquatic plants, etc. Students also visited the Herbarium situated in the garden and learnt the techniques of preparation on herbarium specimens. Students interacted with Dr. Ansari, Dr. Manish Khandpal and Dr. Mayank Dwivedi, and gained knowledge about their areas of research. It was a knowledgeable and learning experience for them.

A visit to Mother Dairy plant, Patparganj, New Delhi was organized for the students of B. Sc. (H) Botany, 3rd year on 13th April, 2019. This trip was in partial fulfillment of the B. Sc. (H) Botany 3rd year curriculum for the paper, Industrial and Environmental Microbiology. A total of about 59 students had participated in what turned out to be a fruitful and memorable trip. The students learnt about the steps of procurement of milk, pasteurization and distribution. The visit concluded with the students and teachers enjoying unlimited ice-creams served by the kind Mother Dairy staff.

As a part of the curriculum, students of B. Sc. (Hons) Botany 1st Year visited Asola Bhatti Wildlife Sanctuary located in Tughlakabad, New Delhi on September 11, 2018 accompanied by some faculty members to study the natural flora and fauna. The park is a thorny shrub forest exhibiting rich biodiversity. Students also learned about the role of Dragonfly and Gambusia (mosquito fish) as a bio-control to lower mosquito population. Students also learned about the role of Water Cabbage (Pistia) in controlling pollution in aquatic ecosystem. Further, as a part of the Butterfly Census program under Bombay Natural History Society Conservation Education Centre (BNHS-CEC)- Delhi, we conducted a survey of the Psychophilous flora in the park area and observed/counted a number of butterfly species. Students observed various immigrant butterfly species breeding on Cassia fistula (Amaltas) and other plant species. Briefed about the mimicry patterns in butterflies, are the second most important pollinators to most agricultural crops and help in preserving plant biodiversity. Students also learned about the local species of flora and fauna in Delhi conserved in the Butterfly Biodiversity Park.
