On 31st March 2023, Vrinda, the Botanical Society of Deshbandhu College, organised its Inaugural Function for the year 2023. The chief guest for the event was Prof Pradeep Kumar Burma, an eminent scientist and professor at Department of Genetics, University of Delhi, South Campus. The event was graced by presence of the Principal, Prof Rajiv Aggarwal, Vice Principal, Prof Kamal Kumar Gupta, faculty members and students from various departments of the college.

The event commenced with a welcome address and brief introduction of the Botanical Society followed by lamp lighting by the dignitaries, singing of Saraswati Vandana by the students and playing of Delhi University Kul Geet. As a token of appreciation and respect, the chief guest was presented with a sapling along with a painting of Tulsi made by the students of Botany department.

Subsequently, all the dignitaries on the dais were felicitated with a sapling, this was followed by a welcome address by the Teacher-in-charge of Department of Botany, Dr. Kumar Shantanu, who formally welcomed the audience and introduced the event. The Principal, Prof Rajiv Aggarwal then addressed the audience and extended his best wishes to the newly formed Botanical Society. The Vice Principal, Prof Kamal Kumar Gupta then talked about the importance of Drosophila in transgenic crops. 

The chief guest, Prof Burma then delivered the inaugural lecture on the topic “Journey in Science: From Drosophila to Transgenic Crops”. He gave an insight of his decades long journey to bring transgenic plants from the lab out into the fields. The extremely informative and insightful talk was followed by an elaborate question answer session. As a token of gratitude, Prof Burma was presented with a memento and a certificate of appreciation. The second part of the event was the introduction of the newly formed Botanical Society for this year. The Botanical Society post holders, council members and class representatives from all the three years were presented with the badges. This was followed by a group photograph with all the dignitaries and a formal vote of thanks by the Society advisor, Dr. Preeti Rawat.

The Inaugural Ceremony for the session 2021-22 was digitally held on February 11, 2022. The event was organized by the Botanical Society of Deshbandhu College, University of Delhi.

The event was commenced by Ms. Tanya Saxena at 3 P.M. The Welcome Address was presented by Dr. Aparna Nautiyal, Teacher-In-Charge. Prof. Kamal Kumar Gupta, Vice-Principal congratulated the staff members, society members and the students for a new beginning. The President of the Botanical Society Ms. Priyanka Barua introduced the guest speaker Prof. Renu Deswal, Department of Botany, University of Delhi. Prof. Deswal delivered a talk on the topic “Proteomics to nanoproteomics”.

Ms. Jennifer David introduced the newly formed Council of the Botanical Society. The badges were presented to the members by their family. The President delivered the Oath where all the members jointly swore to serve the department diligently and earnestly. This was followed by an address by the Society advisor Dr. Sunita Malik. Ms. Priyanka Barua then delivered the Vote of Thanks.

The ceremony was then carried forward by two inter-college competitions namely “Lockdown Memories” and “Rang de Matka”. Certificates of Participation were awarded to all the attendees of the talk and the participants of the events along with prizes to the winners. Overall, the ceremony saw nearly 250 participants.

The Online Inaugural Ceremony for the session 2020-21 Botany Department, Deshbandhu College, Delhi University, started with great gala gaiety on Friday, January 29, 2021. This grand affair was organized to provide a platform to the students to showcase their versatility. It played an important role in shaping the personality of the students. The function initiated with Lamp lighting & Goddess Saraswati Vandana. The compere Ms. Srishti coordinated the events of the programme. The Teacher In-Charge of our department, Dr Aparna Nautiyal Welcomed our guests, faculty members and the student participants. The Guest of Honour, our Invited Speaker was introduced to the audience by Council President Ms. D.N.S.S. Srilatha. Prof. S.R. Yadav mesmerized the audience with his highly informative and gripping session on ‘PLANT DIVERSITY: IT’S IMPORTANCE IN CONSERVATION’. He emphasized on a clear vision, focussed approach & determination towards achieving one’s goals. The lecture was followed by an interactive session between the audience and Prof Yadav, coordinated by the Council Vice-President Mr. Shreyansh Gupta.

The newly formed Council was also introduced by Ms Muskaan Makhija, Treasurer of the Council. The Investiture ceremony was performed by the parents and family members of the Office bearers of the Council- President, Vice-President, Secretary and Treasurer. The class-representatives of all the years, as well as the council members from different classes were also introduced. The function was concluded with vote of thanks by the Council President followed by the National Anthem.

Above 200 participants attended the online Inauguration Ceremony including Faculty members and students from various colleges, and from other departments of our college. The inauguration ceremony function also included a splendid blend of two Inter-college competition events.

1. “LITTER TO BETTER” (Best out of Waste competition).

2. “PAINTER’S PALLET” (Digital Poster Making Competition)

More than 100 students registered and participated in these competitions from various colleges of Delhi University, as well as from colleges of from Bihar University, Amity University, Jamia Hamdard, Kanho Birsha University, West Bengal State University, etc. 

देशबंधु महाविद्यालय के वनस्पति विज्ञान विभाग द्वारा वनस्पतिक परिषद् (सत्र 2020-2021) के उदघाटन समारोह के विशेष उपलक्ष्य पर 29 जनवरी, 2021 को "प्लांट डायवर्सिटी : इट्स इम्पोर्टेंस इन् कंजर्वेशन (पौधों की विविधता : संरक्षण में इसका महत्त्व" विषय पर कार्यक्रम का आयोजन किया गया था।

कार्यक्रम में वक्ता शिवाजी विश्वविद्यालय, महाराष्ट्र में वनस्पति विज्ञान विभाग में प्राध्यापक के पद पर कार्यरत आदरणीय "प्रोफ़ेसर श्रीरंग रामचंद्र यादव जी" थे। कार्यक्रम का संचालन तय समयानुसार संचालिका सृष्टि गुप्ता (तृतीय वर्ष) द्वारा किया गया। कार्यक्रम का शुभारंभ दीप प्रज्ज्वलन व सरस्वती वंदना के साथ हुआ। कार्यक्रम को आगे बढ़ाते हुए सभी श्रोताओं का स्वागत करने हेतु संचालिका द्वारा वनस्पति विज्ञान विभाग की शिक्षक प्रभारी डॉ. अपर्णा नौटियाल को आमंत्रित किया गया, जिन्होंने आदरणीय प्राचार्य महोदय डॉ. राजीव अग्रवाल, मुख्य अतिथि प्रोफ़ेसर श्रीरंग रामचंद्र यादव, समस्त गणमान्य अतिथियों, सभी प्राध्यापको, विद्यार्थियों एवं सर्व श्रोता गण का हार्दिक स्वागत किया।                                         

इसी क्रम में आगे बढ़कर हमारी वनस्पतिक परिषद् की नव निर्वाचित अध्यक्षा डी. एन. एस. एस. श्रीलता (तृतीय वर्ष) ने हमारे मुख्य अतिथि व वक्ता प्रोफ़ेसर श्रीरंग रामचंद्र यादव जी का सुविस्तार परिचय कराते हुए, हार्दिक अभिनंदन किया।

हमारे वक्ता प्रोफ़ेसर श्रीरंग रामचंद्र यादव जी द्वारा एक अदभुत व ज्ञानवर्धक वक्तव्य सुनने को मिला, जिसके फलस्वरूप हमें जैव विविधता, प्रकृति एवं पेड़-पौधों से जुड़े हमारे अस्तित्व व निर्भरता का सचित्र वर्णन हुआ। साथ ही हमें इस तथ्य से भी अवगत कराया कि पेड़-पौधें न केवल संसार का अत्यंत सुंदर अभिन्न अंग है, अपितु मनुष्य जाती के साथ उनका एक विशेष भौतिक, आकर्षक, भावपूर्ण एवं आध्यात्मिक संबंध है, जो जीवित रहने के लिए उन पर हमारी निर्भरता दर्शाता है। उन्होंने बताया कि जैव विविधता के आस्तित्व में आने के उपरांत ही हमें जीव विज्ञान की अत्यंत मह्त्वपूर्ण शाखा- वर्गीकरण शाखा (टैक्सोनमी) का बोध हुआ, जो  सभी शाखाओं की जननी मानी गई हैं। इसके अतिरिक्त हमारी प्राकृतिक विरासत के अमूल्य चिह्न, पश्चिमी घाट पर विद्यमान पौधों की विविधता का भी सुंदर चित्रण किया।

साथ ही हमें ज्ञात हुआ कि प्रोफ़ेसर श्रीरंग रामचंद्र यादव जी ने अपने विद्यार्थियों के सहयोग से 78 नई प्रजातियां खोजी और अनेक स्थानिक पौधों का संरक्षण कर उनकी संख्या में वृद्धि करके पश्चिमी घाट को सुसमृद्ध किया, जो अत्यंत सराहनीय एवं प्रेरणादायक प्रयास है। अंत में उन्होंने हमें प्राकृतिक धरोहर के गहन महत्त्व से अवगत कर, उसका संरक्षण करने की सीख देते हुए उन्होंने अपनी वाणी को विराम दिया। 

वक्तव्य के पश्चात वनस्पतिक परिषद् के नव निर्वाचित उपाध्यक्ष श्रेयांश गुप्ता (द्वितीय वर्ष) के द्वारा प्रश्न उत्तर प्रक्रिया का आयोजन हुआ, जिसमें हमारे वक्ता द्वारा श्रोताओं के प्रश्नों के अत्यंत सरल व विस्तारित रूप में उत्तर दिए गए।

कार्यक्रम को आगे बढ़ाते हुए सोसायटी सलाहकार डॉ. मधु रानी की मार्गदर्शीता में सत्र 2020-2021 के नव निर्वाचित सदस्यों की घोषणा की गई। इसके अतिरिक्त परिषद् के नवनियुक्त पदाधिकारियों जिनमें :- अध्यक्ष के पद पर डी. एन. एस. एस. श्रीलता (तृतीय वर्ष), उपाध्यक्ष के पद पर श्रेयांश गुप्ता (द्वितीय वर्ष), कोषाध्यक्ष के पद पर मुस्कान मखीजा (द्वितीय वर्ष) और सचिव के पद पर चेतन्य धुस्सा (प्रथम वर्ष) को उनके माता-पिता द्वारा बैच पहनाकर आशीर्वाद दिया गया, ताकि वे अपनी कार्यकुशलता से सोसायटी के हित के लिए कार्य करते हुए इसे नई ऊंचाई तक ले जाएं।

इसी के साथ हमारी परिषद् की अध्यक्षा डी. एन. एस. एस. श्रीलता ने आदरणीय प्राचार्य, सम्माननीय वक्ता, सभी गणमान्य अतिथियों, समस्त प्राध्यापक गण, सभी विद्यार्थियों एवं श्रोताओं को कार्यक्रम में जुड़ने के लिए आभार व्यक्त करते हुए धन्यवाद ज्ञापन दिया।

अंततः सभी के कुशल-मंगल व स्वस्थ होने की कामना करते हुए, राष्ट्रीय गान के साथ कार्यक्रम संपन्न किया गया।

तत्पश्चात, कार्यक्रम के अगले क्रम में वनस्पति विज्ञान विभाग द्वारा इस विशेष उपलक्ष्य की शोभा बढ़ाते हुए दो रोमांचक प्रतियोगिताओं का आयोजन किया--

💥"लिटर टू बेटर" प्रतियोगिता, जहां प्रतिभागियों ने अपनी कला व कौशल का प्रयोग कर विषय "एन्वाइरन्मेंट : रियूज, रिड्यूस और रिसाइकिल (पर्यावरण : घटन, पुनरुपयोग और पुनर्चक्रण)" पर निर्धारित समयसीमा (1:30-3: 00 बजे) में व्यर्थ पड़े घरेलू समान से कोई उपयोगी, आकर्षक एवं रचनात्मक कलाकृतियां/वस्तुएं बनाईं।

💥"पेंटर्स पैलेट" प्रतियोगिता, जहां प्रतिभागियों ने निर्धारित समयसीमा (3:00-4:15 बजे) में "बायोडायवर्सिटी कंजर्वेशन : रोल ऑफ़ सोसायटी (जैव विविधता संरक्षण- समाज का दायित्व)" विषय पर डिजिटल पोस्टर बनाकर अपनी कला का प्रदर्शन किया।

दोनों ही प्रतियोगिताओं में लगभग 200 से भी अधिक संख्या में विभिन्न विश्वविद्यालयों एवं महाविद्यालयों के विद्यार्थियों ने बढ़ चढ़कर हिस्सा लिया। दोनों ही प्रतियोगिताएं प्राध्यापकों एवं विद्यार्थियों के सहयोग से सफलतापूर्वक आयोजित हुई, जिनमें विद्यार्थियों की कार्यक्षमता के साथ ही प्राध्यापकों के मार्गदर्शन का अत्यंत महत्वपूर्ण योगदान रहा।
