Botanical Garden

The Botanical Garden at Deshbandhu College is developed and managed by the faculty of Department of Botany. It is spread across an area of about 0.4 acre with enriched and diverse flora ranging from aquatic and xerophytic plants to mesophytic plants divided into horticultural, herbal, taxonomical, embryological, anatomical and ecological sections. Today it has fifty woody trees, and one hundred herbaceous plants. Herbal garden is the main attraction with more than sixty medicinal herbs, shrubs, climbers and trees, which bring awareness of local medicinal plants for common ailments encouraging their cultivation for mass production. It also has a well developed aquatic ecosystem in the form of a healthy pond with many species of aquatic plants. A Mushroom Cultivation Unit is developed in the Botanical Garden for skill enhancement of the students where many varieties of edible mushrooms are grown twice a year. A compost unit is also there to manage all the organic waste of the college. The garden caters approximately one thousand students every year to acquire curriculum based knowledge and use them for scientific research and biodiversity conservation. The garden adds value to the college students by offering hands-on learning experiences and research opportunities as well. It plays an important role in academic and socio-economic progress of the college. It not only increases the beauty of the college but is planned to increase aesthetic sense as well.
