Botanical Excursion to Kausani, Uttarakhand

The Botanical Society “SANJEEVANI” Department of Botany, Deshbandhu College organized a Botanical Excursion to Kausani and Mukteshwar in Uttarakhand, on 5th October, 2018. Students of B. Sc. (Hons) Botany and B. Sc. (Prog) Life Sciences along with some faculty members and lab staff participated in the excursion. Students along with teachers extensively studied and discussed about the flora of the region including, various species of Fungi, Bryophytes, Gymnosperms and Angiosperms. Students also learned to identify, collect and preserve different specimens of these groups. They visited Himalayan Centre of TERI and learned about developing sustainable integrated agricultural techniques to upgrade the modern agriculture. They also visited “Central Institute of Temperate Horticulture” in Mukteshwar and learned about high density cultivation of the Red June peach variety, Golden Apples, walnuts, chestnuts, pecan nuts, ornamental ‘Mirchi’, tomatoes, grapes, Kiwis, etc. and interacted with the researchers in Fruit Science laboratory.  On back journey, they also visited Jim Corbett National Park and studied the flora and fauna of the region and also enjoyed nature walk, adventure activities like rock climbing, rappelling, trekking and river wading. The visit was an amalgamation of fun, education and inspiration for the students. The cool healthy fresh air, clear blue sky, attractive surroundings gave a divine peace and calmness to mind and made us fresh. The enchanting music of tall trees and far-stretching hills were inviting us to visit this place again and again.

Botanical Excursion to Chopta, Uttarakhand

September 12th-16th,  2019

Deparment of Botany, Deshbandhu College organized a Botanical excursion to Chopta, Uttarakhand during 12 -16 September, 2019. Students of B. Sc. (Hons) Botany and B. Sc. (Prog) Life Sciences along with some faculty members and Lab-staff participated in the excursion. On the way to Chopta we visited HNB Garhwal Central University, Srinagar. Where, the students were addressed by Prof. B.P. Chamola and other scientists, visited herbal garden and other fields as well. By evening, after a very long and tiring but enjoyable journey we reached Chopta. Next day morning we moved to our next destination, Tung Nath temple (situated at elevation of 4000m asl) by tracking through a 5 km mountainous track. The track was beautiful lush green mountainous slop covered with trees and very rich in flora. Students observed, learned and discussed about the flora including various species of Fungi, Bryophytes, Gymnosperms and Angiosperms. They also learned to identify, collect and preserve different specimens of these groups. By 6 PM we came back to our tent-houses located on open green field, surrounded by thick forest. The cool healthy fresh air, clear blue sky and attractive surroundings gave a divine peace and calmness to mind and made us fresh. Next morning after having breakfast we packed up and boarded the buses for back journey to Delhi. On the way we also visited Devprayag and Rishikesh. Altogether, the visit was an amalgamation of fun, education and an inspiration for all.

Botanical Excursion to Mcleodganj, Himachal Pradesh

The botanical society of our college organized a botanical trip to Mcleodganj (Dharamshala) in the month of October, 2012. Mcleodganj is a suburb of Dharamshala in Kangra district of Himachal Pradesh. It has an average elevation of 2,082 M situated on the Dhauladhar Range. McLeodGanj was named after Sir Donald FriellMcLeod, a Lieutenant Governor of Punjab. Lord Elgin, the British Viceroy of India (1862–63), liked the area so much that he even suggested at one point that it be made the summer capital of India. It is also known as "Little Lhasa" (a short form of Dharamshala used mainly by Tibetans) because large Tibetan community who have made this place their home along with His Holiness the Dalai Lama. The Tibetan government-in-exile is headquartered in McLeodGanj. Besides the natural beauty, the wide range of altitude, topography and climatic conditions have endorsed the region with a rich and diversified flora. The place has everything for a perfect holiday or botanical excursion. Numerous ancient temples like Jwalamukhi, Brijeshwari and Chamunda lie on the plains below Dharamsala.
