Valedictory Function and Felicitation Ceremony of Botanical Society “VRINDA” (2025–26)
The Botanical Society VRINDA concluded its activities for the academic session 2025–26 with a grand Valedictory Function and Felicitation Ceremony held on 19th March 2026 at Deshbandhu College, University of Delhi. The occasion celebrated a year filled with learning, creativity, and collaboration among the students and faculty members of the Department of Botany.
A major highlight of the programme was the society’s collaboration with the National Symposium of the Himalayan Study Circle, Department of Botany, Deshbandhu College, organized on the theme “Environment and The Himalayas.” The symposium brought together eminent scholars who shared their perspectives on the ecological and cultural significance of the Himalayan region. Distinguished speakers included Dr. Bindhy Wasini Pandey, Professor, Department of Geography, Delhi School of Economics, University of Delhi; Prof. Kaveri Gill, Non-Resident Senior Fellow, Centre of Excellence for Himalayan Studies, Shiv Nadar University, IOE; Prof. Niraj Kumar Singh, Professor of Modern History and Ecology, Maharaja Agrasen College; and Dr. Praveen Kumar Oraon, whose work focuses on Himalayan studies. Their insightful talks provided valuable perspectives on environmental challenges and emerging research related to the Himalayan ecosystem.
As part of the event, an On-the-Spot Poster Making Competition and a Reel Making Competition were organized for students on the theme “Environment and The Himalayas.” The competitions witnessed enthusiastic participation, and the winners were awarded attractive cash prizes and certificates.
The programme commenced with a warm welcome to the Society Advisor for the session 2025–26, Dr. Anjana Singh, along with faculty members and students whose dedication and active participation contributed significantly to the success of the society throughout the year.
The valedictory celebration reflected upon the vibrant journey of VRINDA during the academic session. Throughout the year, the society organized a diverse range of activities, including workshops, seminars, competitions, educational field visits, and academic programmes that encouraged students to explore the fascinating world of botany while nurturing their creativity, scientific temperament, and teamwork.
Adding to the festive spirit, students of the Department of Botany presented musical and cultural performances that made the celebration lively and memorable for everyone present. A special segment of the ceremony was dedicated to the felicitation of the society’s office bearers, council members, editorial team, and class representatives in recognition of their sincere efforts and commitment towards the successful organization of the society’s activities throughout the year.
Another proud moment of the event was the release of the Botanical Society’s annual magazine, PETALS 2026. The magazine captured the essence of the society’s journey and featured students’ creative writings, scientific reflections, artistic expressions, and memorable highlights from the year’s activities.
The Valedictory Function served as a meaningful conclusion to a dynamic and inspiring year for the Botanical Society VRINDA—a year defined by curiosity, collaboration, academic engagement, and a shared passion for the study and appreciation of plant life.

On 26th April, 2024, the Botanical Society of Deshbandhu College “VRINDA” closed its activities for the years 2022-24 by organizing a Valedictory Function and Felicitation ceremony. Dr. Naveen Chandra Bisht, an eminent scientist from NIPGR, Delhi graciously accepted our invitation as the chief guest for the event and gave an invited talk on the topic “ Genome Editing: A New Era in Crop Improvement”.
The event started with the lamp lighting ceremony followed by Saraswati Vandana and Delhi University Kulgeet. The chief guest was then welcomed with a sapling and a beautiful painting made by one of the students from Botany department. As a token of appreciation, the Chief guest was also presented with a memento by Dr. Bela Bhatia. After the formal welcome session, the IQAC coordinator Dr. Aditya Saxena addressed the audience with his motivating words. Afterwards, the Botanical Society Advisor, Dr. Preeti Rawat, formally welcomed the Chief guest, faculty members, students and addressed the audience emphasizing upon the role of the Botanical society in the holistic growth and development of students. She also highlighted upon the various academic, co-curricular and extra-curricular activities and events organized by the Botanical Society throughout the year. After the address by the society advisor, the botanical society magazine “PETALS” for the session 2022-2024 was released by the chief guest and the other distinguished people on the stage. This was followed by an enlightening talk on the topic “Genome Editing: A New Era in Crop Improvement” by the chief guest Dr. Naveen Bisht. The talk was followed by a very engrossing and interesting question and answer session.
The hard work and tireless efforts put in by the students of the Botany Department in various society-related activities was acknowledged in the Felicitation ceremony wherein the Class representatives, Botanical Society Post holders and Council Members were presented with mementos, trophies, and certificates. Afterwards, the much-awaited cultural performance showcasing the India’s rich cultural diversity and heritage was presented by the students of Botany Department.
Towards the end of the event the Botanical Society Presidents, Ms. Tanya Saxena (2022-23) and Mr. Akshat Arya (2023-24), thanked the students and faculty members for their constant help and support. The final vote of thanks was presented by the Society Advisor, Dr. Preeti Rawat. The event formally ended with the National Anthem, followed by Lunch for all the students and faculty members of the Botany department.

On 19th October, 2022, “Vrinda”, The Botanical Society of Deshbandhu College, organized it valedictory ceremony for the session 2021-22. The event was held under the guidance of repected Principal, Prof. Rajiv Aggarwal, IQAC Coordinator, Dr. Aditya Saxena, Teacher-in-charge of Botany Department, Dr. Aparna Nautiyal and Society Advisor, Dr. Sunita Malik.
The chief guest for the event was the distinguished Prof. Rajesh Tandon, Senior Professor, Department of Botany, University of Delhi. He delivered an informative and insightful lecture on the topic “Learning from Ecosystem Services”.
Next part of the event was the unveiling of the annual department magazine “PETALS” for the session 2021-22. It was done by all the dignitaries present there who then congratulated the society for the successful release of the magazine. The team behind the magazine along with all the council members for this session were then felicitated with a certificate and memento by the Chief Guest and the Principal.
The event ended with a cultural dance performance by the students of Botany (Hons.) 2nd Year to mark the wonderful event.

The Valedictory function for the Botanical Society for the session 2020-2021 was organized on 18th January 2022 virtually on Zoom platform. The event commenced with opening remarks by Ms Priyanka Barua to the Valedictory Function of Botanical Society, Deshbandhu College. This was followed by Saraswati Vandana to invoke the blessings of the Goddess of Education. Dr Aparna Nautiyal, Teacher in-charge, Botany Department, welcomed the guest speaker and the audience to the annual event. This was followed by address by Dr Kamal Gupta, Vice-Principal, Deshbandhu College who extended his best wishes to the Botanical Society team. The event progressed with Ms Tanya Saxena introducing the guest speaker for the day, Dr Anjula Pandey, Principal scientist at Division of Plant Exploration and Germplasm Collection, ICAR-National Bureau of Plant Genetic Resources, India.
Dr Pandey gave an illuminating talk on the topic, ‘Economic Botany & Plant Genetic Resources – National Perspective'. She talked about the interactions people have with plants which constitutes Economic Botany. She stressed on the fact that tribal areas demonstrate many economically important plant species. She also touched upon the topic of PGR management. Dr. Pandey walked us through her journeys to different parts of the country where she studied various plant species based on their ecological, economical and medicinal properties.
After the presentation, Dr Pandey had an interactive session with the audience. The participants were bubbling with inquisitive questions. She answered numerous questions conveyed to her by Mr Shreyansh Gupta, Vice President of Botanical Society.
The annual magazine published by the society-PETALS, was also released on this occasion. Ms Muskaan Makhija presented the Virtual magazine to the audience. It was followed by an introduction to the council members of the society by Ms Nysa Hangloo. The office bearers and the members of the council were presented with virtual certificates and mementos as a token of appreciation for their diligence.
Ms DNSS Srilatha, President, Botanical Society concluded the event with her formal gratitude. She congratulated the team for their continuous efforts throughout the year and for making this event, a successful one!
The event was attended by about 250 participants.

Department of Botany , Deshbandhu college, University of Delhi under the aegis of IQAC and DBT Star College Scheme organised a talk on the “Journey of a Biologist: Exploring the Extremes” by Professor Dinabandhu Sahoo, Department of Botany, University of Delhi, Former Director, IBSD in Manipur, Sikkim, Meghalaya and Mizoram in the valedictory function of Botanical society ‘Sanjeevani’ on October 9, 2020. The yearly magazine of the society ‘PETALS’ was also released. Certificate of appreciation and a memento was awarded to the members of the society for their hard work put into making every event a great success during whole year.
On the 4th of April, 2019 the society decided to bring down the curtains by organizing a valedictory function that marked the end of the activities of the academic session 2018-19. Inter-College competitions such as- Treasure Hunt, Photography, Quiz, Talent Hunt etc. were also organized. Professor Prem L. Uniyal, Department of Botany, University of Delhi graced the occasion as Chief Guest. A talk titled as “Drosophila melanogaster: a tiny organism solving gigantic complexities of human neurodegenerative disorders” was delivered by Dr. Surajit Sarkar, Department of Genetics, University of Delhi, South campus who had been kind enough to be our keynote speaker for the day. Prize distribution ceremony was also held to felicitate all our students who have brought laurels to the department in various fields of interest for this session. Last but certainly not the least the annual magazine of the Botanical society “PETALS” was released during the ceremony.

This special day started with the Inter-College competitions like- Rangoli, Photobug, Quiz, Talent Hunt etc. Prof. Chirashree Ghosh, from Department of Environmental Studies, University of Delhi, was the Guest of Honour for the occassion and delivered a talk on “Low carbon lifestyleonly sustainable alternative to minimize carbon footprints”.
The Society marked a successful completion of the session 2016-2017 and close its activities for the academic year by organizing a valedictory and prize distribution function on April 20th, 2017. Prof. K. S. Rao from Department of Botany, University of Delhi graciously accepted our invitation and honoured us by being our chief guest on the occasion. During the function various events were organized and the meritorious students were awarded with medals and certificates. The annual magazine of Botanical Society “Petals” was also released during the function.
The valedictory function for the session 2015-2016 of the society was held on April 19th, 2016. Dr. Pawan K. Dhar, Head, Synthetic Biology Group, School of Biotechnology, Jawaharlal Nehru University graciously accepted our invitation to be the chief guest. The annual magazine ‘Petals’ was released. He also delivered a delightful talk on “Systems and Synthetic Biology: From Concepts to Applications”. Students and faculties were benefitted by the concepts of a new field of system and synthetic biology. Prizes were distributed to the winners of different competitions.
