Big Butterfly Month 2023 ,

The wings of butterflies flutter its vivid colors that brighten our eyes and leave an imprint on our hearts. To celebrate the earth's beautiful creatures, Botanical Society, VRINDA of Department of Botany, Deshbandhu College marked the occasion of Big Butterfly Month on 14th September 2023 in collaboration with Bombay Natural History Society. A brilliant team of Education Officer Shri Alok Kumar and explorers Mr Rajender, Mr Kishan, Mr Trivedi and Mr Aman were present to guide the participants on a presentation on butterflies and host plants followed by a nature walk and group adventure to find and observe the butterflies of Delhi on the college campus.
The event was addressed by happy smiles of Principal Dr. Kamal Kumar Gupta, Teacher-in-charge, Dr. Kumar Shantanu and IQAC coordinator Dr. Aditya Saxena. Shri Alok steered the lecture and touched on the topics of caterpillars, red pierrot, bird dropping morphology, pupa signifying metamorphosis. The students enjoyed the many hues of the butterflies that inspired one to create their butterfly garden. At the end of the lecture, Dr. Preeti Rawat, Botanical Society Advisor gave the vote of thanks. Subsequently, all the participants along with the resource persons from BHNS visited the gardens and green areas of College Campus to find the area's butterflies. The team was able to find 23 different varieties of butterflies viz. Pseudozizeeria maha, Ariadne merione and Phalanta phalanta, etc. The event saw an overwhelming participation from the students and teachers alike and turned out to be a great success. The programme finally concluded with discussion on butterfly's species observed in the college campus and concluding remarks by Dr Neha Yadav, Event coordinator.
A career-counselling session on Prospects of Biotechnology at TERI School of Advanced Studies (TERI SAS)

A career-counselling session for students of final year B.Sc. (H) Botany and B.Sc. (P) Life Sciences was organized under the convener-ship of Dr. Roshni Rajamohan on March 29, 2022 at 2:30 PM. Faculty members from Biotechnology Department of Teri School of Advanced Studies (TERI SAS) shared their valuable insights as resource persons with the students. The event was facilitated by Ms. Sonika Goyal, Manager Placement Cell, TERI-SAS. The experienced faculty who shared their valuable inputs included Prof. Ramakrishnan Sitaraman (Professor and Dean-Academic, Department of Biotechnology), Dr. Chaithanya Madhurantakam, (HoD and Associate Professor), Dr. Shashi Bhushan Tripathi (Associate Professor, Department of Biotechnology). They shared details about M.Sc. Biotechnology Programme at TERI SAS, Biotechnology research at TERI-SAS and Career options in Biotechnology. All resource persons patiently answered queries from students and engaged in active discussion which was very much beneficial for the students in deciding their career path ahead. More than hundred students availed the information shared during the event which was attended by faculty members of the Department of Botany, Deshbandhu College.
