Housing Information

Most UW campuses require freshmen and sophomores to live in university residence halls, if not living at home. Exceptions are made if students are married or if university housing is not available.

Applying for housing is a separate process from applying for admission. Most campuses send housing application forms when students are notified of admission. However, students should check with the housing office of each university for specific details. Early application is important on most campuses, especially if there is dorm preference or a request for a specific roommate.

Be sure to pay the deposit and get your refund by the appropriate date if you have made multiple deposits!

Requests for a refund of the housing deposit must be made in writing by the student. Deposits may be completely or partially refunded, depending on campus policy.

UW-Eau Claire Housing website $75 deposit

Students have until May 1 each year to cancel their housing contract and receive a refund of their $75 room reservation deposit.

Under no circumstances will the $75 deposit be refunded after May 1 each year.

Please note that even if students are released from their housing contract, they do not receive a refund of their $75 housing deposit.

UW-Fond du Lac Housing website $25 application fee

Security deposit is equivalent to one month’s rent. Application fee is non-refundable. Security deposit is refundable.

UW-Fox Valley Housing website No application fee

$530 security deposit for a 4 bedroom & 2 bath (Phase 1)

$550 security deposit for a 4 bedroom & 2 bath (Phase 2)

$640 security deposit for a 2 bedroom & 1 bath

$700 security deposit for a 1 bedroom & 1 bath

$660 security deposit for a Studio

The security deposit is refundable after the lease has ended

UW-Madison Housing website $300 deposit

$250 is refundable if student notifies them before May 1st of non-attendance at UW-Madison.

UW-Platteville Housing website $150 prepayment

$100 refunded if student cancels before May 1st for fall semester, or before December 1st for spring semester.

UW-Stevens Point Housing website $125 deposit

A portion of it is refundable if you cancel your housing contract on or before July 1 prior to the fall you will be joining us (December 15 for those applying for the spring semester).

Cancellations after July 1 will be charged $150.

Cancellations after August 15th will be charged $500.

Cancellations after possession of the room/start of the academic year will be a $500 charge plus the prorated weekly rate.

UW-Whitewater Housing website $125 deposit

Between May 1st and August 1st, the deposit is refunded up to $25. After August 1st, the deposit is not refundable.
