District Wellness Challenge...who wants to Run??? Walk??? Bike??? Join D61 as a family and get moving!! More Info...District Letter for Virtual 5k/10k Walk/Run and 15k Bike.
Dear District 61 Families,
The PE department would like to invite you to the D61 Remote Learning Virtual 5k/10k Walk/Run and 15k Bike on the weekend of May 16th and 17th. The CDC sent out information about exercise (see below) and we want to do our part to provide an opportunity to come together as a community and to stay healthy. Over the next couple of weeks the PE department will provide a chance to train and complete a virtual 5k/10k. All members of the community are welcome. We understand that running is not everyone’s choice for relaxation, so walking or biking will also be welcome.
CDC recommendations:
Take care of our body.
Take deep breaths, stretch or meditate.
Try to eat healthy, well-balanced meals, exercise regularly, and get plenty of sleep.
Make time to unwind and remind yourself that strong feelings will fade.
Try to do some other activities you enjoy to return to your normal life.
Spend time outside - fresh air and exercise is one of the best things you can do over the next few weeks.
We do need your help! Please decide as a family if you are interested in participating in the virtual 5k/10k. Sign-Up Here! We would love 100% participation. Figure out 1, 2, 3 mile courses around the neighborhood using an app like Map My Run (it’s free!). Find a training program that works for your family and follow it weekly. Lastly, go out and train with your family. If some want to run and some can’t, others can ride their bike behind them. Be creative and do what works for your family. Post to FlipGrid to communicate with others on your progress! There is no better feeling than training for a race and accomplishing a long term goal of running 3.1 miles, 6.2 miles, or 9.3 miles.
